Hi I'm Nicki Wilkes

I'm a nanny, a missionary meal blogger, an avid photographer, a happy person; and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a live in nanny and reside with a wonderful family who are not members of the church, but who fully support me in my faith. I look after three children, born 2010, 2012 and 2013 and absolutely love my job. I joined the church in September 2010 and am the only member in my family. My parents live on a smallholding with many different animals; I definitely miss them! I am an avid photographer and love taking photos of the London Temple as it is just down the road from me. It never gets old. I love movies, music, reading, friend time and making others feel special.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church on the 25th September 2010. My best friend of 17 years is a member of the church and I returned from a two week holiday in Africa, where I had time to think about my faith, the day before her wedding. At her wedding I spoke with a few of her friends who answered some of my basic questions and told me it was OK to just walk into the chapel near me and to speak with the missionaries. I also came onto Mormon.org and chatted to a missionary who explained about Joseph Smith and gave me some pointers on what to expect during the meeting! So the following Sunday I sat in the car park and tried to build up the courage to walk into the chapel. I did and here I am today. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and made me feel so at ease. I had my first lesson the following Wednesday and two weeks later, the date was set for my baptism. As I learnt more from the missionaries I realised I was being prepared to enter the church before I had even decided to investigate it. Being a Mormon has opened so many doors in my life and made me realise there is much more out there than I thought there was before. It is not easy, but it is so rewarding and I experience greater joy now. Before I joined the church, Satan had no reason to try to tempt me or bother me so my life was monotonously good; but once I found the true church he had every reason to try to stop me. Satan doesn't want the gospel to be spread across the earth, but I am determined to ensure he does not succeed.

How I live my faith

How I live my faith? I live it everyday. When I first joined the church someone said to me that they hoped I wouldn't change. But how would I not change? I have changed for the better. I no longer drink. I dress modestly. I no longer swear. I pray daily. I look for the best in people. I offer service whenever possible. I live my life in the way Heavenly Father wants me to. When I don't, I am fortunate that I am able to repent. I am also fortunate that I have been able to work with the youth of the church. As a convert to the church, the youth have helped me the most. Watching them live their faith has helped me live mine.
