Hi I'm Velda

I'm a Mormon. I'm a mother of 5 sons/3 daughters/22 grandchildren/& whomever else might wander in! I love getting to know people!

About Me

I have as many interests as all of my children/grandchildren put together. If they are interested, I am interested. I became a registered nurse at 42 following my grandmother's example and have loved all the areas that I have worked in. I love learning; I love gathering my family and friends together for any occasion I can conjure up; I love getting to know new people. By default, I love cooking! I also love sewing; I love music; I love history. I like to play volleyball and I love the water whenever I can get to it. I 'used to' water ski and snow ski. I like to go 4-wheeling and camping and to be outdoors. There is so much more of this world I want to see and come to know. There are people everywhere to meet and learn so much from. Most of all, I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, its doctrines, its people, and the hope and peace that it brings, and I want to share it with everyone!

Why I am a Mormon

"Who is God, and who am I to Him?" With all the mortal reasoning I could conjure up in my 8 year old mind I concluded: He is to me what I believe He is. Then, one day I ventured into a "Bible Study" conducted in a small trailer parked on my school grounds. I received a scroll whereon was written the Lord's Prayer. I memorized those words and began to recite them nightly, always adding "please help my family go to church". I had no particular religion in mind, and I set no time frame for my prayers to be answered. 5 years passed, and my family moved to the right place and time where we could receive proper support to grow up in this Gospel and heal from not having had it. Soon stake missionaries came to our home. I can still hear their voices teaching those basic truths of the gospel that came so powerfully into my mind and heart. How happy I was to join this Church with my family. The Lord had heard my prayers and answered them in his own way and in his own timing. I know that this is the Lord's Church where is found God's Priesthood that has been restored again to us through a loving Heavenly Father who opened the heavens once again in this final dispensation to the latter day prophet, Joseph Smith. My testimony is born of his living witness of the Father and the Son as he knelt in fervent prayer turning his eyes toward heaven asking in faith which of all the churches to join. I know that we can follow that same injunction put forth in James that came so powerfully to Joseph as he read: "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not". I no longer have to rely on my mortal reasoning to answer my childhood question. I am a daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves me. The time will come that we will all remember how well we know Him and how familiar His face is to us. I add my testimony to millions of saints throughout the world that Jesus is the Christ and that he lives and do so in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I seek for personal revelation from the Holy Ghost that is specific for me to live the gospel of Jesus Christ correctly. I strive to follow God's living prophet on the earth today, even Thomas S. Monson, and I pray for him. I know the Lord prepares a way to accomplish his will as we serve in the capacities to which we are called in His Church, in our families, and in our communities. Currently, I teach the youth and organize events to promote unity in our ward. I am a visiting teacher with special watch over 3 lovely sisters. I listen to a prophets voice, I listen for the whisperings of the Holy Ghost, I search the scriptures, I ponder, and I pray. I seek for my spirit to be fed by the source that gave it life. I exercise faith when I accept uncomfortable counsel that helps me align my life with the Lord's teachings as my understanding grows; I reverence the Priesthood and seek the ordinances offered through it; I strive to make and keep sacred covenants. I look for the Lord as he manifests himself through the lowly and suffering that I might see opportunities to attend to them; I set my heart to understand my trials from eternal perspectives. I wait on the Lord and covenant to always remember Him and keep His commandments. He is my God, and I will praise His name forever and ever. He is the source of all my blessings, of life itself. I teach my children to what source we must turn for remission of our sins, for comfort, and for guidance. I repent often. I know that the Lord will help me to become who he knows I can become. I strive to be a faithful steward over what he has given me. I strive to forgive others. In His service my weaknesses are exposed, and I pray daily to always remember my dependency on Him. I exercise my God-given agency, and strive to accept full accountability of all my choices, that I might someday walk in the freedom and dignity that comes from learning His will and doing it. I am thankful for the determination I feel to stay the course.
