Hi I'm Derrick

I grew up in western Washington, I was a foster kid, I'm an ARMY veteran, I'm a commercial diver, I'm a student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in western Washington as a foster kid from age 13. Graduated high school, joined the U.S. Army and served for 3 years. While serving, I lived in South Korea for a year and a half. I also have served in Bosnia and Kuwait. After leaving the Army I went to commercial diving school and then started working in Louisiana as a commercial diver. While working as a diver, I mainly worked in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico but have also worked in Mexico and Saudi Arabia. I met my wife and were were married in may of 2007, we have a wonderful little three year old and another on the way. When the Gulf oil spill occurred the amount of work in the oil field was reduced and so I decided that it would be a good thing to diversify myself and go back to school. I am currently working on the weekends doing inland commercial diving work and going to school full time at Community college. I have developed an appreciation for Ron Paul and the libertarian party over the last two to three years and feel like there needs to be a revival of the constitution and a movement back to liberty and with that liberty, responsibility for our individual and collective choices.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that the church is true because I have went to other churches when I was in my early twenties and was looking for truth. I already knew where I was supposed to be and the spirit testified that to me. I know that a lot of people would like to say that I'm a Mormon just because I grew up as a member but believe me, we did not live a gospel centered home as a kid even though we were baptized as Mormons we certainly didn't live the faith. I'm also intelligent enough to make my own choices and I'm certainly not doomed to fate otherwise I wouldn't have become the man I have. Also, what would be the use of hope?

How I live my faith

I teach every fourth Sunday in our class. Although I'm not perfect I'm trying to improve myself and am trying to help teach members of the church about the gospel at their homes.
