Hi I'm Ben

I'm a new father. I love my family more then anything. I am a family therapist. I'm a social worker, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a great life. I am a new dad and my wife and I love being parents. We have some hard nights, but for the most part we just love every minute with our little one. My entire life I have dreamed of being a dad. I am truly living my dream. We just recently moved from Utah to Arizona so that I could go to graduate school. I am working toward my Masters of Social Work degree. I will graduate in May 2012. I love my work. I am currently a marriage and family counselor intern, working with people of all ages. Helping people is what I have wanted to do my entire life. I feel that I have been blessed with an ability to relate with people, and help them with their problems. I am the most happy when I am serving others. This is what brought me to social work. I chose to be a marriage and family counselor because of the fact that I believe the family is something worth fighting for. I love sports. I was a high school and collage wrestler, and I miss the thrill of friendly competition in the wrestling world. I get my competition fix by being an armchair quarterback, rooting on my favorite football teams whenever I can catch a game with my busy schedule. Over-all the thing that means most to me in my life is my family. I don’t know where I would be without the loving support of an amazing wife, daughter and extended family. They are my life and my world. I truly feel my family is something I could not life without.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for many different reasons. The biggest, overarching reason is that I truly want to live a life modeled after the life lived by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I feel the closest to my Savior when I help people. The Mormon Church gives me many opportunities to serve others. I had the opportunity to serve the Lord as a missionary in the Southern States in 2005. The first week of my mission, Hurricane Katrina hit. I participated in the large scale clean up that the Church was a large part of. I was touched by the spirit of serving others, and it changed who I am. After serving my mission I knew that I needed to find a career where I could help. The Church also gives me a love for family. Becoming a marriage and family therapist was the perfect career fit. As I work with families who are struggling, I think of our Savior and the wonderful example that he was for us. I am a Mormon so that I can help families, so I can serve others, and, so I can have a family of my own. I am also a Mormon because of the wonderful doctrine that families can be together forever. On Mondays as a child, my family would gather together and sing the beloved song "Families can be together forever". The song sings: "families can be together forever through Heavenly Fathers Plan". I am only now realizing the powerful significance of this statement in light of the birth of my new child. I cannot imagine an eternity without my family. The promise the Mormon Church gives of families being together forever is true. I know it to be through the Spirit of God. I know that Heavenly Fathers plan was for us to come to earth have a family and learn to love life. Heavenly Father knew we would make mistakes. For this he gave us the key to his plan, our Savior. I know with all my heart and soul that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that Mormon Church is His Church on the earth today. I am grateful to raise my family in this Church and be a part of its wonderful work.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith every moment of my life. For me, being a Mormon is a lifestyle. I try to think about emulating the example of Jesus Christ in everything that I do. Of course I am not always perfect, but I feel that my life is amazing as I try to follow the teachings of Christ. I live my faith by being a husband and a father. I feel a great responsibility to lead my family to happiness and righteousness. Although this responsibility is great, it is something that brings me great joy. Every time I kiss my daughter and wife, I feel the love that is only matched from the love from our Savior. I try to be an example to my family by attending church and learning more about God and His son Jesus Christ. The more my family and I learn of His teachings, the closer we become. I have been asked to lead a group of adult men in our congregation. I have found the opportunity to be a leader as a great opportunity to serve. I have felt closest to my Savior while I have been trying to fulfill this calling because of the service I am able to offer. I live my faith by serving. I have chosen a career as a social worker. This is a challenging field because of the hardships that I witness in families and individuals. However, as I try to be an example of Christ by helping these individuals, I feel the great emotional reward that only service can bring. I live my faith by bringing my family closer to the Savior. I live my faith by serving others in my church congregation as well as in my community. I live my faith by striving to be an example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My faith is my life. My life is my faith. They are one in the same.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

No way. The Church teaches that all the people on this earth are our brothers and sisters. This gives us the great responsibility to look out for one another. I have taken this so literally that I have chosen a career serving our fellow man. This is something that I love about my life. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Prayer has been the number one way that I have grown closer to my Heavenly Father. In my experience, there is no other way to feel our Heavenly Father so close than when you are on your knees in prayer. I have also felt close to my Heavenly Father as I serve His children. To quote the commonly used Book of Mormon scripture, "When you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 2:17). Show more Show less
