Hi I'm Sakari

I'm a native Finn, currently residing in Helsinki. I study electrical engineering and I'm a happy follower of the LDS faith.

About Me

I've lived most of my life in Finland. Because of my father's occupation and other reasons I've also lived in Austria, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, United States and Russia. I study electrical engineering and I'm majoring in nanotechnology. I've played the piano since I was four and my current interest is in jazz piano. I also like skiing, swimming, diving and sailing. This fall I started ballroom dancing and I really enjoy it!

Why I am a Mormon

My mother got baptized while visiting her brother in Austria back in the days. During her three week stay the missionaries knocked on my uncle's apartment door and my mother opened and let the missionaries in. She heard and accepted what they had to say and got baptized before returning home. And so all of my siblings and I attended church since we were little. My father however was not a Mormon and was somewhat opposed to this new lifestyle. Nonetheless, he was wise enough to understand freedom of choice - but so was my mother. By this I mean that I was never forced to get baptized and, in fact, chose not to when I turned eight years old (which is the age members' children usually get baptized). I waited until I was nine years old and then wanted to get baptized. It was the best decision of my life. Why do I love to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Because I know it to be the restored Church of Christ. I love all its teachings and I've seen it concretely bless my life. As I live according to the principles taught therein, I see how beneficial and true they are.

How I live my faith

I attend church every week on Sundays. At the moment I'm a physical facilities representative in my ward. Some previous callings include ward organist, director of music, young men councilor and executive secretary. One of my favorite callings has been to co-coordinate a summer camp for youth (EFY - Especially For Youth). I also enjoy participating in church dances.
