Hi I'm Matt Harker

I'm a father of two boys and 7th of 9 sons. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, father, son, brother, professional coach, triathlete, and a Mormon. I love my wife of 12 years and my two sons (6 and 2). We are excited to have another join our family in the Fall of 2012. I have 9 brothers! I love them all and am proud to be one of 9 sons of my great parents. I enjoy being a professional coach. I love seeing the 'light turn on' inside my clients heads as they begin to understand and internalize principles of business and personal effectiveness. I enjoy physical activity. In high school I wrestled, played soccer, and played rugby. Recently I've picked up cycling and triathlons.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that Jesus is my Savior, that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, and the Book of Mormon is Scripture. When I was just 19 years old I was preparing to serve a 24 month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like many young men in 1994, I had leaned on the beliefs of my loved ones and didn't have my own conviction of the faith. On my last of 57 days in the Missionary Training Center I was role-playing as a teacher of the Restaration of the Gospel. When I reached the section that gave me an opportunity to express my belief in Joseph Smith, I felt a strong conviction come to me that indeed he saw God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. For me, it was as if the ground shook under my feet. From that day I have never waivered from my knowledge that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith . . by making periodic and frequent accounts for my life. . . by writing in my journal and reflect on my actions. . . by attending sacrament meetings weekly and visit with my Bishop periodically. . . by being honest and open with my wife and children, expressing to them my love for them and frequently asking them to forgive my shortcomings. . . by praying often and read my scriptures. . . by meeting often with the Young Men in my Ward in Mobile, AL to support them in their pursuits towards scouting, academics, and their own mission service.
