Hi I'm Louise

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in California where I joined the Church after my senior year of high school. I am a stay-at-home mom.

About Me

I am a mom, a wife and a grandmother. I love to do projects--quilting, cross stitch, crocheting, and sewing. I enjoy all different kinds of handwork. I like to do digital scrapbooking, and work on organizing pictures. I like to ski and to swim, and to go to the beach. I like to walk my dog. I love being with my family. I enjoy my children, and am thankful for them. I am a cancer survivor and love to work out with other cancer survivors--they inspire me! I learned how important my family and my faith were during my battle with cancer. It made me grateful for the "little things." I am a journal keeper, and love to keep records. I am a picture taker, and have way too many pictures...but am thankful for them all! I like to talk on the phone, I love my friends, and I love to get to know people. It is one of my favorite things. I like to laugh and have a good time, and to be teased and to joke around with other people. I love to read, and will "steal" time to read a good book.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a senior in high school, I was introduced to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I had attended other Christian churches and Young Life groups, but I wasn't satisfied with the answers I got from them. When I was introduced to the Church, one of the first things that impressed me was that they talked about a Father in Heaven. That seemed much more personal to me than just using the title, God, in referring to our Father. When taught that I was truly a spirit duaghter of that Father in Heaven, it rang true to me. I started reading the Book of Mormon, and felt a really good spirit as I read...but I still had my doubts about the truthfulness of the Church. One of the things that was a hard concept for me to accept was that of having a modern-day prophet. However, feeling that the Book of Mormon was true, just had to also confirm that Joseph Smith was a prophet. It made sense that if God talked to people in the past through a prophet, that He would talk in these days also through a prophet. I had just never thought of it before. I wanted to believe it was true, but I wasn't going to join until I had a confirmation of the Spirit that it was true. I had a very real experience with praying about it...and knowing that it was true. It was a warm feeling that I truly felt from my head to my toes. I am so grateful for the strength that my testimony has given to me throughout my life. I know that the Gospel is truly the Gospel as taught by Jesus Christ. I know that my Father in Heaven lives, and that He has a perfect Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. I know He restored His Church to the earth again through the prophet, Joseph Smith, and that Joseph Smith has been followed by other men who have been called of God to be His prophets. I am grateful for the guidance that I get from the Spirit, and for the power of prayer in my life. I know I was led to the true Church of God, and I am so very thankful for it. It has blessed my life ever since the day I joined.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is a day-to day experience. It is part of every day. It is important to me to do daily spiritual things with my family. Each morning we have family prayer and scripture reading. Every week we have family home evening, where we have a lesson or an activity with our family. I am thankful for my responsibilities in the Church setting. In each ward, we have different responsibilities in the different organizations. Right now I am the compassionate service leader, which means i coordinate service for people in need--possibly someone who has just lost a loved one, or had a new baby, or just moved into our area. I also go visiting teaching to 4 different woman in our ward ( a ward is a geographical area and the members who live within that area). That is very enjoyable. I go into their homes, and get to know them, and hopefully help encourage them to live closer to our Father in heaven. I listen to their various problems, and hopefully am a good friend to them. I learn a lot from them as I go in their homes, and see the ways they live the Gospel, and are trying to improve the quality of their lives. I also have visiting teachers who visit me, and they have a profound impact on my life. One time as I was recovering from surgery, my visiting teacher came and rubbed my feet and legs for an hour. It was so comforting at a time when I wasn't feeling too well. Little things like that can mean so much. I try to be a good neighbor--I happen to have great neighbors, but I try to become a better friend to them. I love to attend the temple, and feel of the good spirit that is there. I just try to be a good person, and hopefully, I can help make the world a little better for those around me. I try to let people know that I do enjoy my membership in the Church and the different opportunities that come to me as a result of that membership. I invite my friends to Church activities, so they can be more familiar with what means so much to me and with what makes me happy.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

The Mormon lifestyle is one of happiness, because we are trying to live our lives closely patterned to that of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are trying to be kind and loving and obedient--to live close to the standards that are set in the scriptures. We are trying to be of service to others, especially those in our family. We are trying to live as children of Heavenly Father, and treat others as children of that same Father in Heaven. We have commandments that we need to keep, and hopefully that gives us a path to follow and helps us in every day of our lives. Show more Show less
