Hi I'm Becky

I live in Tacoma. I graduated from Smith College and currently attend BYU-Idaho. I love my husband, my pets & ice cream!

About Me

I live in Tacoma, WA, with my husband Brad, a dog and a cat. We were married for time & all eternity in 2003 in the Seattle Temple. I graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor’s in Sociology in 1999. I currently am working towards a second Bachelor's in Business through Brigham Young University-Idaho's online program. I work full-time as a Budget Technician at Tacoma Public Schools. I also teach Microsoft Office computer classes to district employees. I love to be active – walking, bike riding, hiking, canoeing, etc. I also enjoy Broadway Shows, singing, reading & tending my vegetable gardens!

Why I am a Mormon

It is very difficult to explain in the short space provided the full story of why I am a Mormon, & how I became a Mormon. I entered Smith College as a very liberal young woman, agnostic leaning towards atheist, & sure that religion was for people who weren’t self-disciplined enough to do what was right without having someone else tell them what to do. I graduated from Smith College as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. If you would like to know the full story, I would love to meet you for ice cream or go on a walk with you to discuss how I came to know my Heavenly Father & join the Church. I will state why I am Mormon today. I am Mormon because I love truth & the gospel is true. I love learning & the Church encourages learning & study. I am Mormon because my own personal beliefs perfectly match the basic beliefs of the Church. I know that I am most happy when I am “anxiously engaged” in the good works of the gospel - fulfilling my duties at church, studying scriptures, praying with true intent, attending the temple, & being involved in activities that are uplifting & fun. I know that our Heavenly Father loves all of his children, whether they lived on the earth in the past, present or future, & He has provided a way for our eternal happiness. I know that I can be with my Heavenly Father again. I love my husband, & know that he & I will be together not just in this life, but even after death throughout all eternity. I love the Plan of Salvation & encourage you to use the resources on Mormon.org to find out the answers to the questions “Why am I on earth?” & “What happens when I die?” (look under “Our Faith” for “God’s Plan of Happiness”) Studying the gospel & knowing the answers to these two questions have given me such peace & happiness. I know the Gospel is true. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, & am so grateful that he provided such a good example for me to follow, & paid the price for my mistakes so that when I repent I can be forgiven.

How I live my faith

The gospel is a large part of my daily life. My husband & I pray together every morning & night, and read scriptures together every night. I also do my best to study the scriptures & pray daily on my own. When things are tough at work, or I’m having a bad day, I can always say a quick prayer to ask for patience & strength. When life is crazy, having an eternal perspective helps me to focus on what is truly important & let go of stress about things that really don’t matter. I serve those around me whenever I can, and love being able to serve at church in whatever capacity I am needed. I currently serve with the Young Women at church, ages 12 - 18. We have Sunday church lessons together & activities on Tuesday nights. I really enjoy the opportunity to work with the youth, especially since my husband & I are unable to have our own children.
