Hi I'm Cheri Himmer

I'm a mother of five sons and have 2 beautiful granddaughters. I love being with children, dogs and in the outdoors.

About Me

I love being a mom of 5 sons and a wife to my husband. Being with my family is what I enjoy best. And yes, its a lot of work! But it's a satisfying work, especially now that there are grandchildren in my life. I feel that influencing children and families is a positive direction in my life. That is why I have chosen to teach preschool a couple of days a week so I can develop good teaching skills, use some of my education ( I have a B.A. from BYU) and empower young families in such a way that they have skills to succeed. I love being involved in children's schools and have spent years volunteering in classrooms teaching Art and supporting their musical endeavors. I love to be involved in music myself (choirs, family band, playing my recorder when I'm alone) and anything outdoors (hiking, cycling, playing with dogs).

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but when I was 14 I decided I realized that I did not want to take my beliefs for granted. I knew that the church was true and that it permeated how I made decisions and guided my life. The gospel of Jesus Christ has always been a constant for me. I would not be or do what I do without knowing that Heavenly Father has a plan for me and that it is eternal. He has designed me to become like Him.

How I live my faith

It seems that most of my callings have been centered around teaching children or leading those who teach children in the church. I know that when children are young, they are the most apt to grow and become centered in truth when they are immersed in it. That is why I find being with children so satisfying. Right now, I hold a calling with my husband that has been extremely rewarding: We are coordinators for the Addiction Recovery Program. It has been inspiring for me to witness how the atonement of Jesus Christ heals those who have felt hopeless but truly desire the peace that comes from the gospel. I have seen lives changed drastically from applying the principles of this program centered on the atonement. My testimony of my Savior has grown more through this calling than any other. Forgiveness is obtainable and is the sweetest sensation that we can experience. It brings light in my life and fills my perspective with gratitude. When I seek forgiveness for myself, I realize more how others who might do harm can be forgiven and I stress less over such offenses, usually unintended. Honestly, this aleves a lot of drama and wasted energy worrying about offenses. The gospel really does make our burdens lighter.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Cheri Himmer
In my calling I help families who have been devastated by someone in their family with a pornography addiction. For many outside of a faith based community, pornography is readily accepted without a huge amount of shame and guilt. Within the framework or a moral belief system, a great deal of shame and guilt is felt and compels the addict to hide, feel negativity and be drawn more into the darkness of pornography. With shame or without, the impulse to view pornography is addictive and changes the physiology of the brain in a very real way. Science is just now realizing this, but our society has not caught on. Unfortunately, the destructiveness of this addiction destroys families and leads husbands, wives and children away from Heavenly Father's plan of Happiness. It's my prayer that our communities can recognize the danger of pornography and act in ways to protect our families and bring healing from this plague (which is possible) through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
