Hi I'm Skye

I'm a college student. I love sports, watching movies, dancing, and reading. I use the Oxford Comma. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm at Brigham Young University studying English. I'm still not 100% sure what I will do for my career but I've always loved reading and writing. As far as hobbies, I like to do a little bit of everything. I've never bought into the idea that you have to fit into a certain "niche" or stereotype. I love sports. I consider myself the world's biggest Jazz (Utah's NBA team) fan. I love watching football and soccer. I also like to play all those sports, though I'm not much of an athlete. I'm a bit of a nerd. I'm one of those people who's obsessed with Star Wars, but not quite enough to go to conventions. I like video games. I like fantasy and sci-fi films and literature. I also have an artistic side. While I'm not an amazing artist, I love viewing and analyzing art. I also love to write anything from creative non-fiction to poetry. I like to take pictures and make small films, but I've never been brave enough to consider doing any of this as a career. I love my family. I'm the oldest child of four. All my siblings are fun, brilliant, and great to be around. My parents both grew up in Utah as well, and have done a great job (in my eyes, at least) raising our family despite all sorts of challenges. I'm close with my extended family as well, and we spend a lot of time with grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. I've also been blessed to have great friends who have made me a much better person.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I always felt good going to church and always had a strong belief that I had a Heavenly Father and that he loved me. Still, as I got closer to adulthood I realized that I needed to seek a stronger testimony that everything I had learned as a child was true. After a couple years of searching, I re-affirmed my beliefs that there is a God, and that he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to the Earth to suffer for our sins. Through Jesus Christ and his Atonement we can find peace in this life, and eventually eternal life. God has always called prophets to relay his teachings, and I believe that he called a prophet in the 1800s called Joseph Smith to help restore those teachings to the world. Prophets and Apostles exist to point us towards Christ, and I believe that God has continued to call prophets and apostles since Joseph Smith. I know that God's teachings are my greatest source of peace in this world. I know that trying to live a life centered around Christ keeps me balanced and gives me a feeling of security. I love knowing that as I live the commandments and accept Christ's Atonement, I can eventually live forever in Heaven with my family.

How I live my faith

I am a leader in my ward's service committee. (A ward is just a specific branch of the church in my area) We try to organize service projects in our local community, and also make sures that our members needs are taken care of. I also do home teaching, which is a chance to visit specific members in my ward and make sure they are doing okay both physically and spiritually. I served as a missionary in Barcelona, Spain, teaching the beliefs of the Mormon church to the amazing people there.
