Hi I'm Ashley

I'm a college student, I'm a flute player, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm currently a college student at Purdue University! I am majoring in mathematics and minoring in Spanish. Along with my academics, I enjoy hanging out at my church's institute building on campus. It's great because when I'm there, I can hang out with my friends and learn about the gospel! I'm super excited because just recently I received my mission call to the Nevada Reno mission! I report to the Provo MTC on June 24 and can't wait!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When I was little I came to church to see my friends and sing primary songs. Though I like coming to church to see my friends who share my standards, I also come to church to learn more about the gospel. I believe that this church is the true church. When I was thirteen I read the Book of Mormon cover to cover for the first time. After I read it and prayed about it, I felt the spirit so strong and knew that this church was the true church. The Young Women program (for girls age 12-18) also strengthened my testimony a lot as I got to spend time with other girls my age who share my standards. We also did Personal Progress, which is kind of like Scouts for girls. I did activities and projects that helped me grow spiritually and in other things too. Every time I completed a project and wrote in my journal about it, the Holy Ghost would confirm to me that this church is true. Now, I participate in the church's institute program (for young adults). Institute is great because I get to see so many awesome people while I learn about the church and strengthen my testimony. Another thing that keeps me going to church is writing in my personal journal. Usually I write about blessings that I have noticed in my life. It really helps me feel my Savior's love when I write about how I have been blessed in the simplest ways.

How I live my faith

I love church (in case I haven't said it yet)! I feel that my faith is a major part of my life. I try to pray to my Heavenly Father at least a couple times a day and I try to study my scriptures on a daily basis. I also love to help the missionaries, especially since I will soon be going on a mission. I am excited that in a few months I will have the opportunity to serve a mission and teach others about the gospel every day!

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes, Mormons are Christians :) The official name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". So, we are the church of Jesus Christ, and follow his teachings. We read the Bible often, and right now we are studying the Bible in seminary, so I am learning a ton about Jesus. Also, we read the Book of Mormon alongside the Bible. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and, just like the BIble, witnesses of Christ's life and the Atonement. When we pray, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. We celebrate holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Mormons are Christian, just like Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, and any other branch of Christianity. Show more Show less
