Hi I'm Raymond

I live in Alabama. I'm a Spanish major and I work with high school students. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now, I'm studying to become a Spanish teacher. I was a missionary for the church in Mexico City and I fell in love with the language (and languages in general). I really like to read and I love to take pictures. I also like to cook, especially Mexican food. One of my favorite things to do is to cook for friends. I guess that's the southerner in me.

Why I am a Mormon

Today, I am a Mormon because my Heavenly Father sent me the support I needed when I had doubts about him. I really had a hard time with belief when I was younger. I was brought up a Mormon, but I guess I was really rebellious as a youngster. There was so much I didn't understand about myself and the importance of the Savior in my life. I tried to do everything by myself to avoid any problems. I was about eighteen when I realized that I needed some help. I turned to the scriptures and I prayed about them. All my life I had been taught that God doesn't lie, so I was really direct when I asked Him if this was the right thing. I feel like He wanted me to find out more for myself. But, as I learned more and continued to pray and ask, I came to realize that this church was the right place to be. It was like a beacon in today's world. I found so much light with my friends that there really was no way this could be wrong. I am so thankful for the support my friends have given me and for the learning we all do together, because they really are what strengthens my faith.

How I live my faith

I just try to be a good person. Sometimes that means getting out and helping someone move. Other times, I just try to sit and listen to people so that I can help them when they need it. If you want specific examples, I could never give them to you. I also do work putting names from census records into a genealogy database so that people all over the world can find and learn more about their ancestors and families. I also volunteer with places like Goodwill and the CSU Language Learning Center so that I can help others.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Temples are the place where families become connected for all time and eternity. The temple is a place where we participate in ordinances that allow us to make sure that all members of our family, especially those that did not have the opportunity in life, to have a chance to enjoy the same blessings we have. A living family member performs the ordinance for these passed relatives, forming a special bond between the dead and the living that can last forever. The temple, for me, is a place of inspiration and comfort because it feels like one of the closest links between heaven and earth. Even just sitting on the grounds I feel closer to my Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
