Hi I'm Jake Berlin

I´m a diligent student, a trailblazing son, an older brother, an avid athlete, ¡un poco Chilenopo!, and...I´m a Mormon.

About Me

I´m the oldest of seven kids with one amazing little sister, and five crazy (cool) little brothers. I was born in Ogden UT, but grew up in Orem where I left a mark as a Bonneville Bronco, an OJH Jaguar, and a Timpanogos Timberwolf. While growing up I loved playing sports; I played soccer, basketball, and a bit of football growing up, and I love running track and XC as well (I ran a mile in 4:26 when I was 16 yrs old). After graduating from High School, I studied for Political Science/International Relations for a year at BYU, and then I served a full-time mission in CHILE for two years. I absolutely loved my mission, and I can´t believe how fast time passes by. As far as hobbies go, I like to travel a lot and have been all around the States with my family in our motor-home, and went to Germany with my parents when I was little. I also have a passion for reading and computer/video games. I´m nuts when it comes to the NBA (Go Spurs Go!) and college basketball and football (Rise and Shout the Cougars are Out!). My loyalty lies with first with the Lord, second with my family, third with my friends, and fourth with everything else.

Why I am a Mormon

That´s an interesting question that I´ve had to answer many times especially while on my mission. Many people assume that I´m a Mormon just because my parents are Mormons and that´s how I was raised. I suppose they are right to an extent. I am eternally grateful for the wonderful parents I have, the examples they have given me, and the lessons they have taught me. Aside from all of that though, the fundamental reason I´m a Mormon is because I´ve come to know through the power of the Holy Ghost, which speaks to us with unmistakable feelings of peace, joy, comfort, love, and warmth, that Jesus Christ is my Savior, that Joseph Smith was called by Him to restore His Church, and that today Christ is still at the head of His Church, directing it through a living prophet and apostles. Some may read this and feel skeptical, but anyone can come to know the truths that I just stated by reading the Book of Mormon sincerely, and then praying with faith in Christ to ask God if it´s true. I can testify of this because I´ve experienced it in my own life and seen it in the lives of many people I've come in contact with. I invite all others to do the same.

How I live my faith

I'm going to school full-time, and I work two jobs. I stay pretty busy, but I always strive to make time for the Lord and for the most important aspects of life. That includes things like daily prayer and scripture study, weekly Church attendance, and service in Church assignments. I truly find joy and peace in these activities, and I have seen how small, consistent actions can have immense effects over time. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps to keep me grounded in life, and gives me optimism and hope for the future. I strive to live in a way that will allow the Lord to be pleased with me, and I've been extremely blessed as I've done so.
