Hi I'm Amanda

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a mother of five children. My husband and I have a blended family where three of the children are mine and two are his. We have 4 boys and 1 girl all 18 and over. We have a part-member family but everyone is respectful of each other. My oldest son has mitochondrial disease as well as autism so our family has learned to serve with love and compassion. I work outside the home as an advertising sales executive for our city's newspaper. I enjoy meeting many different people and learning about them. It almost never fails that the conversation gets back to religion so most of them are aware of my beliefs and generally ask questions. I love missionary work! I have a lot of interests but have probably never tried or have failed at most of them - gardening, canning, quilting, etc. A little know secret about me is that I would love to write a book. I would like to write about the experiences of this life with a special needs child. Oh, the stories to tell!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both converts before I was born so it is really the only church I have belonged to. My parents divorced and we stopped attending church when I was about 12 and even up to that point it was very sporadic. There came a point in my life where my children were reaching the age of baptism and I felt the gentle nudging of the Lord to return to Him. After almost a lifetime of being less active I returned to church and have never regretted it. I see the Lord's hand in everything, everday. I have a testimony of the Gospel because I believe in Christ; I believe Christ and His teachings. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embraces the teachings of Christ in the New Testament. I love that there is so much focus on family and family values. I love that I have a better understanding of the Atonement of Christ and that it was personally for me and because of it the Plan of Salvation can be complete. Everything just makes so much sense and there are answers that a lot of people are searching for. Having a son with a disease that can take his life at any time without notice might be an unbearable situation but because of my knowledge of the Plan of Salvation I can find peace knowing that my family can be together in the next life, even for eternity. And the happiness, oh I cannot even explain how happy I am now that I have returned to full activity in the church and been given the opportunity to serve in many capacities. Most of all I am a Mormon because at a time I questioned my own testimony I prayed and received an answer to my questions. God has let me know through his Holy Spirit that this is His church and I cannot deny that.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by looking at everything from an eternal perspective. Each decision I make will have consequences, whether they be good or bad. I try to determine if the choice I make will bring me closer to my Father in Heaven or if it will draw me in the opposite direction. I am not perfect and do not always make the best choice but being aware that everything I do in this life is to teach me to be more Christlike. I strive to not think of just the here and now or for immediate gratification and at times that means a sacrifice of what I think I want at the time but guess what? when I sacrifice so that I can remain closer to God and Jesus Christ I realize that thing I originally wanted wasn't anything all that grand!
