Hi I'm David

I am a college student studying Business Management, a restaurant manager, a husband, a friend, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a big family where me and my six brothers and sisters grew up as members of the the church. I moved to Florida from California when I was about 5 years old and spent the next fifteen to twenty years there. My family has gone through many hard times but through our faith in Jesus Christ we have always received the strength to pull through. Recently, one of the hardest things we have gone through, is the passing of my mother. Within a few short months she went from perfectly good health to passing from a horrible diease called adenocarcinoma (Lung Cancer). Luckily through our faith in God, we are able to continue through life knowing that we will be able to live with her again. My name is David and I go through many of the same situations that so many others will go through and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church all of my life, but there did come a point where I finally had to put all of my knowledge to the test. I had to kneel down and ask my maker if this was the path that He wanted me on. I know without a doubt that this is the Lords church on the earth today and that as we follow His chosen leaders, His prophets and apostles, we will be guided back to Him. Thats one thing that I love about our church, it truely is the same one that Jesus Christ established thousands of years ago, restored through His prophet Joseph Smith. It gives me such peace and direction to know that I am following the path that the Lord has placed before me.

How I live my faith

There are so many things that I do to live my faith on a daily basis. In the church we have different "callings" or responsibilities to take care of. One of the callings that I have is to teach the adult sunday school class. At first, I felt so inadequate to teach the adults being only 23 years old. Everyone else in there was at least 35 with a few kids, and here I was trying to help them draw closer to God with their families with little to know experience in raising my own family. But I have loved being able to teach those members who have now become dear friends to me. Living the gospel on a daily basis is truely the greatest blessing that I have been able to acheive.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Absolutely! We love the Bible and feel that the words therein are the words of God. He loves us so much that he calls prophets and apostles to teach us how to become more like Him. We also believe in additional scripture that goes along with the Bible. They do not replace the Bible. These additional books include: The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. We also believe in modern revelation by Prophets and Apostles who live today who continue to help us draw closer to God. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

You are right, we have always had the Bible to read and learn from. But think to yourself... How many churches do you see that use the Bible? Almost all of them, right? And each and everyone of them teaches the Bible differently, or we could say that they interpret it differently. This happens because of what happened years ago called the apostasy. The apostasy was prophesied of by Amos in the Old Testament (Amos 8:11-12). After the death of the Lord's Apostles in the New Testament the apostasy began. Men, with good intentions, began to teach the scriptures according to what they remembered from the apostles. The authority to speak and act in the name of God was no longer on the earth to keep the doctrine pure. Many years later the snowball effect had grown into hundreds of thousands of different beliefs of the scriptures and many churches had been created. In the early 1800's the Lord finally saw fit when Joseph Smith had the honest and sincere question as to which church was the real church of God. Joseph Smith, while studying in the scriptures, found the answer that he needed in the book of James 1:5. This scripture told him to pray when you lack wisdom and ask God what you should do. The Lord answered his prayer and called him to be a prophet to restore the church of God back to the earth. Our Father in Heaven loves us so much that he again called a prophet to lead His children on the earth just as he had done with the ancient prophets. Show more Show less
