Hi I'm Dustin

I am from Idaho. I am a student majoring in Photography. I am a husband, a pole vaulter, and an entrepreneur. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been going to Idaho State University for a few years. My major is Mass Communication. I am studying photography and I will graduate in December 2012. Taking pictures is a huge passion of mine. I like lots of areas of photography. I really enjoy taking night pictures, sports pictures, macro pictures, and portraits. Although I will graduate with a photography degree, I am planning on becoming a seminary teacher. For LDS students in High School, a class is offered outside of the school system called Seminary. There they can learn more about the scriptures, the gospel, and God's plan for them in their lives. For a teenager this can provide a great strength for them. I live a very active life in and out of the church. I am married. I am a student. I am developing an online business. I play on an intramural flag football team. I read a lot of books. At church I play piano for the primary. I am a mamma's boy, so I try and stay connected with my family. This can be very difficult with 6 siblings, but family has always been important to me.

Why I am a Mormon

There are a few reasons that I'm a Mormon. I grew up in the church, as did my parents. Although this has given be a strong foundation in the church, it is not the base of my belief. I have built my testimony from my own experience. After studying the Book of Mormon, I said a simple prayer asking God to tell me if the book was scripture. I wanted to know that the words within were written by prophets of old even as the Bible. I felt such a burning in my heart, a peace and a happiness, that I could not deny the answer I had received. I know that the Book of Mormon is scripture just like the Bible. Through that knowledge I began to build up a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet of God, and through him, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reorganized their church, and brought back the fullness of the gospel. It is because of the things that God has revealed to me that I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

In the church I have been asked to play piano for the primary kids. They are kids ages 3 - 11. During part of church on Sunday, the kids are in a class with others their age. They then gather together with the other classes and enjoy a quick lesson on gospel basics, and a singing time where they learn gospel songs. I love being a part of this. Young kids have such simple faith. We can learn so much from them. I also visit few families as a "home teacher". We have gospel discussions, and I help to watch over their spiritual and temporal needs. If something does come up, I can bring it to the attention of church leaders so the family can get the help that they need. This church is a church of service, and I love helping others. It is easy to live a life that is fully immersed as a Mormon because of my faith and testimony. It lives deep in my heart. I lead a very busy life outside of church, but because of what I do within it, the Lord has always blessed me to be able to balance my life.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

I was a missionary for two years in the greater Kansas City area. When the missionaries come to your home, they will talk about Christ and His gospel. They are kind of like Paul from the New Testament, who went around to those who weren't part of the church established by Christ and taught those people what Christ had taught. Missionaries share messages about Jesus Christ and His Atonement, God's plan for you and your family, and the basic doctrines of the gospel. They will help you and your family set goals to come closer to Christ, then show you the steps to take to achieve those goals. They will become great friends to your family, and you will feel the power Heavenly Father has given them as teachers of His Gospel. Show more Show less
