Hi I'm Bryan Hartsock

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 27 yr old student in Utah. I love playing basketball and dream often about playing in the NBA. From birth basketball enthusiast, probably because the my father's first gift to me was a full size basketball. Growing up I loved playing not only basketball but soccer, football, swimming, street hockey...it's a long list of outdoor activities. Other than sports I love my family. My sister, mom and dad are the three most important people in my life. I also have a beautiful extended family and more than anything love to see them during Thanksgiving and family reunions. After high school I went to Ohio State University for two years. Loved it there. OH...if you're a fan you know how to follow. At 21 I decided to serve a 2-year mission in Rome, Italy, which I also loved. :) After the mission I came home spent some time with mom and left to finish my education in Psychology. Right now I'm currently working to finish a degree and am enjoying the beautiful outdoors in Utah.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a mormon? It's funny to think about it and sometimes funny to say because most people don't know what or actually (who) Mormon was. haha. I laugh because I didn't know either for such a long time. For those who don't know, Mormon was a prophet, like Moses, or a person with whom God spoke and who in turn brought God's messages to the people. But I don't worship Mormon, I worship Christ. Mormon is just a nickname for believing in Jesus Christ and being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Anyway, I am I Mormon because I believe that Christ and God still speak to men today who act as leaders just like those who lived in the time of the bible. Meaning, I believe that God guides this church and those leading it, like Thomas Monson. I think the reason most important is simply that I believe in God and I want to serve him the best I can, believing that he established this church in order to help us to that.

How I live my faith

I believe in Christ so I live the best I possibly can to reflect that belief. I definitely fall short all the time but thankfully I believe in his grace. What I have found most important and beneficial to strengthening my faith is being in the service of others. Many times I feel myself changing, more than anything growing in a desire to be a better person. It's not always easy to just go out and serve so I like to keep and open mind and my eyes peeled to help those that are in need around me. The other day I was racing home to grab some dinner and saw an old lady struggling to get up the stairs to the University to see her granddaughters graduation. I gave her my arm and we walked up every step. For me it didn't take a whole lot of effort but I think for her it meant a lot more. I think these little acts of service I try to be open to help me grow and I hope help others too. I have also found that through sincere prayer I grow closer to God. Again not always an easy habit, especially with the busy life of a student, but when I take the time to open up my heart to God I feel that changing power of Christ. It is a wonderful feeling.
