Hi I'm Laurie

I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I love to sing and garden and hike. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I hike with a group of friends every Friday, all year around. When there is a lot of snow, we put on the snowshoes, but still head into the mountains. We love being outside and enjoying nature and each other. Each week I volunteer with a group of handicapped adults, reading them stories and singing songs. I have seven (nearly eight) grandchildren that I love being with. Children are a blessing, and grandchildren are a delight! I sing in an amazing chorus under the baton of Craig Jessop, who led the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for many years. It's called "American Festival Chorus." I'm especially blessed because my husband also began singing with the choir after I sang in it for three years.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Savior Jesus Christ and His teachings. He loves each and every one of us and gave His life for us. What an amazing blessing! I love reading the Book of Mormon. As a companion to the Bible, it brings so much clarity and understanding. Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet says that he "glories in plainness" and that is exactly what the Book of Mormon does for me, it makes the other scriptures plain and easy to understand. The Gospel of Jesus Christ, restored to the earth in these latter-days is a great blessing to me and to my family. It brings meaning and understanding to our lives, and helps us find joy in all that we do, even when we have tribulation or heartache.

How I live my faith

Each Sunday morning, my husband and I get up at 6:00. I fix him breakfast and send him off to a neighboring building where he is a leader of a group of Young Single Adults. While he spends the day there, I spend my day at our own church building or in my neighborhood serving the needs of the women as a leader in our women's organization called the "Relief Society." Even though we are apart, we are both serving our Heavenly Father and we rejoice in the opportunity. It is a great blessing to serve and makes us feel fulfilled and happy.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Laurie
My husband Bryce and I have made it a priority to be "of one mind" in our efforts to raise our children. I am so grateful that he has been there to support my efforts, to listen and take on some of the work when I need help. He does much more than support our family financially. He is a spiritual strength to our children and also helps us laugh. He backs me up when I need to discipline a child. It feels a bit like having two witnesses. Children can easily pit one parent against the other, but our communication with each other has kept that to a minimum and when our kids know that we are backing each other up, they submit and don't fight it. Now that our children have grown and left the house, I'm so grateful to have Bryce as my friend and confidant. I'm looking forward to the eternities with him. Show more Show less
