Hi I'm Abbs

I like to wear colored tights, & I dream of one day gaining my pet cat's full respect. All in all, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the definition of a "Walking Contradiction": I make myself out to be a blunt, no-nonsense tough girl, but underneath I'm actually kind of a shy kid. I'm the person that people go to talk about conflicts in their lives, & I love helping others on a emotional level. I feel interconnected to creativity--art, music, film, writing--& I'm fascinated by history & religion. I become a five year old when I see cats, & I'll stick up for my loved ones, no matter what . I'm not perfect, but I like the way I am just fine.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a strong LDS home, but like many Latter-Day Saints I had to go through personal experiences to fully understand why the Gospel is essential to life. In my late teenage years I went through some of my darkest days, & through it all I've become closer to my Heavenly Father & the teachings of the prophets. I stay active in the church, because I know that the Lord has a personal plan for me, & I know I cannot come to my full potential without His help & guidance. I grow to love Him every day & see the little miracles that occur daily in my life. Without the Gospel, I wouldn't be who I am today.

How I live my faith

Currently I'm my Singles ward organist, & I love it! I try to do a little act of kindness every day, as it helps me gain a better perspective at how much the Lord loves each & every one of His children. I keep a special prayer in my heart so that I may be guided by the Holy Ghost & be led in the direction I'm supposed to go. I try my best to fulfill my visiting teaching assignments & be a person others can confide in. As I said before, I'm not perfect, but I strive everyday to be a better person that will make my family & loved ones proud to call me their comrade.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

How you dress & act show, indirectly, how you want to be viewed by others. Because of the way that men are wired, they are more likely than women to focus on the physical; meaning, if a girl walks by in an immodest outfit, the guy is more prone to having inappropriate thoughts enter his mind. And because men have something pretty important called testosterone, they're seeing you as an object, NOT a person. You may be the most wonderful woman in the world, but if you dress in such a way that leaves little to the imagination, you are only creating a false statement for yourself that sends men the message that you are out there to "get some". To put it blunt, if you dress modestly & classy, men will see you as a respectful person; if you dress immodestly & trashy, you are sending the WRONG message to the WRONG guys. Keep it covered! What is faith?

As a whole, faith is having a "hope for things which are not seen, which are true" (see Book of Mormon, Alma 32:21). Having faith is a vital step in becoming truly involved in the Gospel. When you have faith in God, it shows that you are trying to come closer to Him & understand the things which are in store for you & only you. Faith is something that, I believe, takes time to fully grow. You can't just wake up one morning & expect yourself to say, "Hey I'm 100% full of faith!" It takes nurturing, patience & hope to really come to possess it, & God knows that. He is always there to help you on your journey to putting your confidence & trust in Him. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Speaking from personal experience, I have felt a tiny part of the real sorrow that comes from pornography & its filth. We, as children of God, may not have the full power to eliminate pornography altogether, but we have complete control over how to keep it out of our lives! Parents can use antivirus & blocking programs on the computer, which prevents explicit sites from clogging up their internet use. It's also important that they have frank but meaningful talks with their children about WHY it's vital to avoid pornography. Women are strongly encouraged to dress modestly. We don't want to recreate any level of pornography in front of the men we love & appreciate! It is so important that we always, always, ALWAYS, keep our appearance clean, modest & tasteful. Whenever I run into a dirty magazine cover at the store, I flip it over! I don't want to be tempted to look! I am FIERCELY protective of the men in my life, & I try to make myself to appear as someone the guys can respect, not hold as an object. Show more Show less
