Hi I'm Vicki

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mother of 8 and grandma of almost 15! I have been married for 38 years to my best friend. I love spending time with my family. I work as a relationship educator and it is a very fulfilling job. I teach couples that have a child together how to get along better for the child's sake. Even if they aren't living together, it is still so important that they communicate and try and get along. I enjoy reading, doing crosswords and sudoku puzzles, cooking and baking. I love to travel to visit my kids and grandkids that live far away. I have a crazy talent of writing funny poems for people who are having birthdays, retiring, etc. I love college basketball, especially when it's March Madness! I am a "sock freak" and have a great collection of socks-especially holiday socks. I love to shop and especially love finding bargains!

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church as a young mom, in 1976. My husband and I had just had our first child and wanted to change our lives to set a good example for him. Guerry, my husband had joined the LDS church as a teenager, but had stopped going. An old friend of his from high school brought the missionaries over and as I learned about the gospel and read the Book of Mormon I knew in my heart that it was true. The missionaries were able to answer questions that no one else had ever been able to answer...questions like "where did I come from"? Where did God come from? Is Hell really a place where you burn forever? Being a Mormon has changed my life in so many ways. I have a purpose in life... I am a happy person...I love helping others. Knowing that our family can be eternal is also very important to me. I could never imagine that God would put us in families and then we would be separated at death. Learning about Temples and eternal families made so much sense to me. I wanted that for my family. I love that we have a health code, that we believe in dressing modestly, and we keep our language clean. I love the value the church puts on families spending time together working and playing. It is not just a Sunday religion...it's a way of life. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I try to follow the Savior's teaching in Matthew of "Letting my light shine." I love to help others and serve my fellow man. I have spent most of my church time working with the youth. For 10 years, I taught an early morning scripture study class for LDS high school students called Seminary. Every school day during a teen's high school years the youth of our church get up extra early to study the scriptures together. My group came at 6:00 am! I am so impressed that our teens sacrifice their sleep to learn about the Savior. I loved teaching them and spending every morning with them...they made me want to be a better person. I also served as a leader of our Young Women's group- girls age 12-18. One fun thing we did was to go to a week long "girls camp" every summer! It was a great experience spending a week in the wilderness with our teenage girls...no hairdryers, cell phones, ipods, or BOYS! It was a fun and spiritual experience. Right now I serve in the Relief Society, the church's program for adult women. I love serving with the women of the church-they are so loving and giving. I am also a representative for our Social Services program- we have programs for unwed mothers, adoption, addictions, and other types of counseling. I help in making referrals for those program. I also try to live the gospel daily by reading my scriptures daily and spending time with my Heavenly Father in prayer. I try hard to be a good example to others. I love attending church every Sunday.
