Hi I'm Jared

I am a Civil Engineer. I love music, and everything about the ocean, but my family is my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a problem solver. I love tackling a good problem, the more complicated the better. In my work I deal with solving engineering design problems. Especially in the current economic climate of limited budgets, it can be really intense finding a solution that does the job, without blowing the budget. My family is my real life though. When I am not working, I try to spend as much time as I can with my wife and kids. Our favorite vacation is anything on the beach where we can play in the waves.

Why I am a Mormon

I was brought up in the church so I did not have misconceptions or preconcieved notions about the church to overcome. However, I have always been a scientifically minded person, so when I was younger, I struggled a lot with the whole idea of religion in general. Faith in something that you cannot see or hear was never something that came easy to me. I can't explain it exactly, but during a phase of my life when I wasn't living the gospel as I had been taught, I was saying a prayer, needing some guideance, and I felt something inside that I couldn't explain. It felt as though someone I loved was putting their arm around me, and I knew. Since then I have found that as I live the gospel, I have a clarity of mind that expands my ability to understand everything. That clarity has helped me in every aspect of my life. I am a mormon because though scriptural study and prayer, this is where my Heavenly Father has guided me. I did a lot of researching other religions, both Christian and not, when I was younger, and found many of the others facinating, but none of them inspired the spiritual awakening. None of the other ones had the power that the priesthood of the LDS church had. It is a difficult thing to explain to someone who has not experienced it, but there is a spiritual power there. Since the time I committed my life fully, I have seen and experienced deeply personal manifestations of this power, and I know without the slightest doubt that the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ appeared to the boy Joseph in 1820, and that he restored the fullness of the gospel to the earth in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

Most of my work that I have done in the church has been with the youth. In a world of degrading standards, it is more important than ever to instill in the youth the importance of morals. As a youth, I remember my parents telling me how they worried about my generation, with all of the challenges that were then developing. Since then the moral standards of society have degenerated further, and so I get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I am preparing another generation to withstand the increasingly difficult challenges ahead.
