Hi I'm Katherine

I'm a graduate student. I try hard to serve the people around me, make their lives better, and be a good friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a graduate student studying Speech-Language Pathology (a.k.a speech therapy). I grew up living in an old church building that my dad turned into a pipe organ making shop. I worked by his side traveling to different parts of the country and meeting wonderful people of all different religions. I love all kinds of music and dance as well as photography. I love learning new things and conquering old fears.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the joy that comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing brings greater happiness. I am a Mormon because I want to be with my loved ones forever. My family and friends are so dear to me that I can't imagine life without them. I know that Jesus Christ made it possible to have eternal life with the people I love. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know that God doesn't change and He calls a prophet to guide His children today, just as He did in Biblical times. I am so grateful for His guidance. When I am discouraged, confused, or lonely, I know that Heavenly Father will help me feel loved and help me to know how to make my life better than I could have planned on my own. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ care about me personally and answer my prayers. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and I KNOW that is truly the word of God. Studying the Book of Mormon along with the Bible helps me know how to live my life the way God wants me to so that I can have joy and happiness.

How I live my faith

I don't do anything out of the ordinary, but God's work is done by ordinary people. I try hard to do what Heavenly Father wants me to do. I know that He needs me to help and serve His children. We are all children of God and I know that He answers prayers and attends to the needs of His children through the people around them. I live my faith by caring about family, friends, and strangers alike and striving to bring happiness to their lives. I live my faith by studying the scriptures to learn the word of God and sharing what I learn with others. I go to church each Sunday where I learn and teach about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also participate in activities throughout the week to serve and get to know my neighbors and make the community a better place.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Members all have the opportunity to be leaders and teachers. I have attended church services in many different religions and I find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unique in that we all help teach, uplift, and serve each other. The members are organized geographically into congregations (called "wards" or "branches") and then each member is given a "calling" or a responsibility in the ward. For example: A bishop is called as the leader of the congregation, some people are assigned teach the children's classes, and some are in charge of music, etc. We also take turns preparing and giving lessons in Sunday School and other meetings. All of the time is donated. It is a great way to serve others and also learn a lot ourselves. The best way to learn is by actively doing! Show more Show less
