Hi I'm Richard

I grew up in Utah. I'm a soldier and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah, the heart of "Mormon Country" and grew up as a memeber of the Church. After High School I went to a military school in New York. My goal is to fly Helicopters in the US Army when I graduate. That is all curently on hold to serve a two year mission for the Church in the hopes of sharing with others what has made such a difference in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and grew up being one of the "good Mormon kids". That being said, I have still had to come to my own decisions on religion. Much of my life has been devoted to finding out for myself that this Church is true and that the things they teach are true. While I was in school in New York my religious beliefs were often questioned and sometimes even belittled. Through it all I have continued to grow closer to the Savior and have come to know for myself that this is His church on the earth.

How I live my faith

I have walked away from an estimated $367,000 (US) college scholorship to share what I have with the world. This is not a decision I made lightly and I would not be here now if there were doubts in my mind as to the truth of our message. Even crazier, I'm not alone! Many of us make the same decision every year. Even though that is a lot of money, I know that if I put the Lord first in my life he will provide for me and everything will work out the way it should. Usually He doesn't even ask for such sacrifices, just simple things about the way we live our lives. No matter what He asks of you, I know that if you do it you will recieve blessing far greater than your sacrifices.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

If you want to know the truth of our message, finding your answer involves trying it out for yourself. Read the Book of Mormon, pray and ask God, and then listen for your answer. If you ask as James 1:5 directs- that is, with a sincere heart, having faith in Christ- you will recieve your answer through the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is generally manifest through feelings of peace, hope, and joy. You may feel a warm, comfortable sensation. This is your answer. Those feelings are the Holy Ghost testifying to you that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true, and that we have it. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Wards, Stakes and Branches are units of the church, similar to parishes or other congregations. Your ward or branch will often become like a larger, secondary family unit to you. Members are always there with a warm handshake, ready and willing to help with whatever difficulties you may be experiencing. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

One of the first things the Apostles do after Christ's death is call a new Apostle. This is because- just as our church functions today- one of the 12 became the prophet and leader of the Church. In Acts 1 they choose and set apart Matthias to fill the vacancy in the 12. This is an example of part of Christ's organized church that was altered and lost. Because God loves us, He called another prophet and restored the Gospel to the earth. Through that restoration we again have an understanding of this doctrine, as well as many others.
