Hi I'm Alexy B.

I was born in Toronto, Canada. I am a wife and mom of three. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I am an avid runner. I love to practice yoga. I love nature and hiking and do gardening although that can be interesting in Arizona. I am a gluten-free baker, a university graduate with a design degree, an illustrator, a voracious reader with 5 wildly different books going at once depending on my mood. I really enjoy playing tennis, and badminton with my kids, do not like camping and I love to spend time and play with my kids, and my husband of almost 17 years. I love a good laugh, I love to do creative things around the house and make it a place that my family looks forward to being. I served a full-time mission for 18 months in the western United States, before I got married and loved that experience. I was diagnosed with two Auto-Immune disorders; Celiac Disease about three years ago and Lupus almost two years ago and am learning to live and adjust to the changes that they have brought about.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the LDS church although both of my parents are converts to the Church. My mom is from Germany and joined before I was born and my dad who is from England joined the church when I was 14. I have seen what a difference living the teachings of Jesus Christ makes in a person's life. The gospel of Jesus Christ has provided such a sense of direction and strength to my life, and peace and happiness as I strive to live its teachings. I am thankful for the opportunities we have in the church to do acts of service for others. Through these experiences I have learned that service brings a richer sense of meaning and importance to my life and joy as we help one another and follow the example of Jesus Christ. This gospel is for everyone. One of the most important things I have learned is that we are all children of a loving God, our Heavenly Father, who has sent us here to earth to grow, learn and make choices. He loves us and is aware of each one of us no matter how insignificant we feel we might be. We are all here to gain and strengthen our faith; trials and challenges are a part of life, we can learn from these experiences and grow stronger when we endure them well. I love the scripture in the book of Mormon found in 2 Nephi 31:20 "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men." I love to read the scriptures; the Bible and especially the Book of Mormon, which helps me more clearly understand the purpose of my life and the example and teachings of the Savior. There is such a strong feeling of goodness, peace, and hope that I receive when I read these words taught by ancient prophets.

How I live my faith

One of the things that helps me to live closer to God is to pray daily. I absolutely know that He hears and answers my prayers, but not always how or in a way that I expect or want. I read the scriptures every morning before I start my day, and that time to study and ponder spiritual things helps me refocus and put my life into perspective. As a family we also set aside time weekly to spend together to learn a spiritual topic, talk, or play together, with no outside interruptions. That time has really helped us to bond as a family, and realize how important we are to one another. At church I've had the opportunity to teach and lead the young girls ages 12-18. I've also lead and taught in the women's organization, and with the young children ages 3-11. The chance to serve and teach others is an amazing experience and humbling as well.
