Hi I'm Alta

I am from Salt Lake City, Utah. I like to play soccer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a daughter, a grand-daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, and a return missionary where I shared this message with people in Santiago, Chile. I love to be with my family and friends, but I mean who doesn't right? I love to play soccer with them. Indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, futsol-you name it, I love it! I love to go snowboarding especially with my dad and sister. I love to go on walks (and no I'm not about to say long walks on the beach-although I do love those too!) with my mom and my bordercollie, Shelby. I love to run, and especially on trails. I love to do all these things with people that push me, with people that make me want to be a better person, that challenge me. I love to study the gospel! Oh wow, seriously the gospel is amazing and I love diving into the scriptures and talking about the them with all I can! I love having deep conversations about life-you know like the "pillow talk" :)

Why I am a Mormon

Oh wow, where do I even begin? I was born into a home where my mom is an active member of the LDS or Mormon church. My dad, although baptized has never really been active. I have been extremely lucky though because both my parents are amazing examples of Christ whether active or not. Growing up, I myself was very active in the church. I was baptized at the age of eight and found great joy in church activity. At the age of 16 I felt the need to decide for myself if the church was true. Unfortunately, for a couple years I didn't think it was. I fell away. I wasn't happy even though I tried to fake it, but something was missing. The thing that was missing was the Holy Ghost. We all can feel the power of the Holy Ghost-the power that testifies truth unto us. I had been given this gift when I was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was given the promise that as I lived the commandments, I would always be guided and directed by it. And let me say, the Holy Ghost is the reason I am a member. Because over and over by the feelings I receive through the Holy Ghost, I know without a doubt that this gospel is Christ's true church here on earth. We have the same organization that Christ had when He Himself was here. We have all the keys (The Book of Mormon, Prophets, the Priesthood), knowledge, and promises that we need to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I am a member because this knowledge gives me purpose. Because by this knowledge, I know that I can be with my family for forever, even after this life on earth. I am a member of this church because I testify it is true and I do so as someone who didn't live it for awhile. Don't live another day as I did-in the dark, because the light will make you so much happier. I testify of this.

How I live my faith

Like I said earlier I returned home from serving a 18 month mission in Santiago, Chile in February 2013. The mission was the most amazing experience of my life because I was able to share the gospel with all those around me every single day. Now that I am home, I am a college student and have the opportunity to have callings within my ward, speak in church, and try to be an example of Christ to those around me. My most recent calling last semester was a Relief Society instructor. I had the opportunity to teach the women of the church once a month a message about the gospel. It was an amazing calling because I love being able to verbally share what I believe. I look forward to my next calling!

What do Mormons believe about family?

This is one of my favorite things about the church is the emphasis they put on family. The family is extremely important to the church and many activities are provided to help strengthen the family. We do this because we know that the family we have now on earth can be together forever. God has given us something so sweet in this life, not to just take it away in the life to come!
