Hi I'm Rudy

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father and a grandfather to 23 grandchildren. I'm an artist and a musician, and an emergency survival instructor...at least those are the things that are most important to me. Currently I am performing a Cowboy Show, old time cowboy music, stories and poems on Friday nights. I am also launching a new website devoted to teaching urban/suburban emergency preparedness and survival. I teach a concept that I call "burbcraft" which is the skills of taking care of yourself in the aftermath of a catastrophic event.

Why I am a Mormon

I heard about the church when I was a young man of 20. My father met a Mormon in his work and was impressed by him. My parents invited the missionaries to their home and I was in attendance for the first two lessons. Something just rang true about what I was hearing. I had never been affiliated with any church and did not have a desire to do so, but there was a difference here with the Mormons. Being very much interested in drag racing at the time, a thought entered my mind..."if this is true, and I'm not a part of it, then I'm spinning my wheels." In the world of drag racing spinning your wheels means no traction. You're not going to get anywhere. I took the challenge to pray about the things I was hearing. I quickly came to know that those things were true. I had found the true Church of Jesus Christ. I read the Book of Mormon, I prayed about it and was given the answer that it was also true. I was baptized in 1969, over 40 years ago. I have never regretted my decision, in fact I have rejoiced in it considerably. My testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints has grown steadily over the years, and has been a great blessing to me.

How I live my faith

In my ward I'm currently the Young Men's President. I work with the 16 to 18 year old boys. I teach the Sunday Priesthood lessons and administer the Young Men's program. I have served in two Bishoprics as a counselor, two Branch Presidencies, as a counselor, and as the Branch President of the Mescalero Apache Branch on the Mescalero Reservation in southern New Mexico. I spent a good deal of time with the Scouts as well. I love serving in the church and love the association with so many great people. Sunday is the highlight of my week as I gather with the saints and worship the living Christ.
