Hi I'm Jeremy

I grew up in Southern Utah, moved to Seattle, now live in Arizona. I am a husband, father, dental student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Four years ago my wife and I decided to pursue a new career path. It has been my long time goal to be a dentist. My wife and I both had a career and no children. Since that decision, our life has been rocked by two kids, many challenges, and some fun adventures. We both left our careers and comfortable income to take this path. Other than fun with family, my first choice activities would be ultimate frisbee or backpacking. Although most of my days are spent in books or at a computer, I would rather be swimming with our kids or giving my wife a well-deserved break.

Why I am a Mormon

Fortunately I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; in other words, my parents raised me that way. I believe that God knew that I would be too stubborn to join later. Joseph Smith Jr. was the founder of this church; he said that he led the people by, "teaching them correct principles and letting them govern themselves." Parents can make you do certain things, like go to church or pray. But they cannot make these decisions for you forever. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ has the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That means everything that He taught when He was on Earth. Having correct principles and the Gift of the Holy Ghost allows me to govern myself. Making good choices and living God's commandments allows me to have the Holy Ghost with me. The Holy Ghost has given me a special witness that I am here on Earth for a purpose and that I am a son of God. This comes as a feeling of comfort in your heart and mind. Anyone can feel the Holy Ghost and it is through His influence that we will accept truth and make the changes in our personal actions that allow us to feel worthy of being in God's presence. The Church of Jesus Christ has the fullness of the gospel; that is why we have commandments that other churches do not. For example, we are asked by a living prophet to avoid coffee and alcohol. This has obvious health benefits but also requires sacrifice and obedience. My life has been greatly blessed by living God's commandments and I know that God does not give a commandment that He will not make it possible for us to live...but it is not always easy.

How I live my faith

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we have no paid clergy. If something gets done it is through volunteer service. We each have the opportunity to participate. Some of my favorite responsibilities/callings have been working with the Youth. Our church combinesYouth activities with the Boy Scouts of American, so we get to take these young men away from their video games and TV for a few days. My favorite thing is to participate in seeing these youth come to know Jesus Christ through service to others.
