Hi I'm Chad

I have a wonderful wife. I'm a physics Ph.D. student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the oldest of five kids. I grew up partly in West Virginia and partly in Texas. Science of all sorts fascinates me and I'm currently doing research in experimental plasma fusion as I work towards a Ph.D. in physics. Everything I learn about science and about the world is a manifestation to me that God loves us. When I'm not at school or in the lab I love spending time with my wife. We enjoy cooking, especially Italian food, and just relaxing. I also love playing all sorts of sports, such as soccer, football, sailing, skiing, and racquetball. I am an avid hiker and love the mountains.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was six, my mom, my younger brother, my younger sister, and I were in a horrible car accident. My siblings and I escaped without bruises but my mom died later that day in the hospital. As I watched my father, now alone, cope with the tremendous hardship of losing his wife and becoming a single father I saw him find refuge in the gospel of Jesus Christ and in the Book of Mormon. Even though I was young, I was fully aware of what had happened and wondered why it was necessary. To answer my questions, I decided to turn to the gospel as well. As a young child I first gained a testimony of prayer, church attendance, and the scriptures as I saw how much better they made me feel. Through the intervening years as I've struggled with the ever-present trials of life I've continued along the same path that I started on when I saw six. As I've done so I have seen the tremendous blessings that come from dedication to the gospel. I know God is our Heavenly Father and that He loves us tremendously. He sends us trials as stepping stones so that we can grow and reach our true potential as His sons and daughters. I know that He has restored His gospel and His Church to the earth in these days through the Prophet Joseph Smith so that we can find peace in this life and eternal happiness in the next. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, along with the Bible and other sacred scriptures, and that by abiding by its precepts we can come to understand our purpose in this life and realize the blessings that our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ, have in store for us. Most importantly, I know that Jesus Christ suffered for our sins so that we can be forgiven and live with our families for eternity.

How I live my faith

Every day starts for me with time set aside to pray and to study the scriptures, usually, but not always, the Book of Mormon. Afterwards, I take a 20 minute bus ride to school, so I like to use that time to memorize scriptures that I can keep with me throughout the day. I love doing home teaching, meaning that I enjoy visiting assigned families from the church and getting to know them better and serving them. When I'm needed I also enjoy going out with the full-time missionaries to help spread the gospel to those who have not heard it so that they too can feel the great blessings that I have felt as a member of the Church.
