Hi I'm Rick

I'm a husband, father, and I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up in the mountains I have always enjoyed the outdoors. My wife and I enjoy rock climbing, biking, and watersports in the the summer and spend winters skiing and snowboarding. The national parks in our area make it easy to get lost in the beauty that is all around us. As a new father I am learning new lessons about patience, love and family. Our daughter was born in September and I am starting to better understand the love that God has for us, his children, when I hold her and think of her potential for good in the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always struggled with the magnitude of God. It is hard to look into the night sky and see all of the stars without wondering about something greater than myself. My testimony of God and his concern for me has been developed over years of searching and asking. I know that He lives and I have felt Him assure me He is there. In a world with so many questions and confusion the gospel of Jesus Christ makes sense. It puts all the pieces together and allow me to look at life in perspective.

How I live my faith

As the scoutmaster in my area I get to share my love for God and the outdoors with young men. On our outings we experience the grandeur of creation and the amazing sights stir something within us. The outdoors is a good place for questions of meaning and of life. I share my thoughts about God and His influence in my life with the young men and they build me up with their willingness to serve and help others and each other. Service is at the heart of scouting as well as the gospel of Jesus Christ. Serving others and doing a "good turn daily" brings a feeling of satisfaction and I know that is what Christ would do if he were here among us.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Mormons are ordinary people with a very strong sense of who we are and what life is about. Mormons live all over the world and are a part of society at all levels. Maybe the most apparent thing about Mormons is our view on family. Families are the center of this life and a source of happiness, fulfillment, and joy. As a new father I know that my relationship to God has been strengthened by the love I feel for my new baby girl. For Mormons our faith is a part of us in all aspects of our lives, not just when we are in church. Following the example of Christ and practicing Christian values in professional and social life is part of who we are. Show more Show less
