Hi I'm Sherry Caskey

I grew up on the central coast of California. Graduated from BYU, have been married for 18 years with four children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a mother of four children. I got a degree in social work, but have not worked in the field since I had children. I always wanted to be a stay at home mom and feel blessed that I can. It is not always easy and sometimes does not feel the most rewarding, but so happy to be here for my children. I am interested in policitcs and love the constitution!! I have helped at my local elementary school to help teach the children more about the constitution and to instill a love for their country. I love sports, especially volleyball. I enjoy watching my children play. I also love music, although I am not proficient at any instrument. I love that my children have the opportunity to play different insrtuments. I love my family and enjoy the people around me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Gospel, so of course I grew up going to church and was baptized a Mormon. But there is a point in everyone's life that they have to find out for themselves if the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I took that opportunity in college. I attended Brigham Young University, which is a LDS university. I had the opportunity to take several religion classes. I knew that I should gain my own testimony. I already strongly believed in the power of prayer as I had seen it work up to this point in my life. I specifically prayed to know if Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I had to know this for myself, everything else would hinge on this surety. If Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, then he did translate the Book of Mormon and that book was a most true and correct book. I remember being in a Sunday School class at BYU and they palyed the movie "The First Vision". It is a movie about Joseph Smith when he saw the Father and the Son. I had seen it before several times, but this time felt different. I knew it was because I prayed to know if the Gospel was true. I felt a warm sensation all over my body and a peacefulness in my heart. And the thought entered my mind that this is true. I knew then the Lord through the Holy Spirit was telling me that this is the true church of Jesus Christ. I have never doubted since and I try to live my life that would please my Heavenly Father and the Savior. I make lots of mistakes, but I know through the Atonement that I can repent and live with Him again.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday. I pray to my Heavenly Father every morning and night. I thank Him for all my many blessings and ask for His help in my struggles. I try to study my scriptures everyday as well. As I study and learn about my Savior, I want to be more like Him. Studying the scriptures and praying are essential in my life and show how I try to live my faith. I want to communicate with God and I know that He wants me to. Through praying and studying I feel my Heavenly Fathers and the Savior's love for me. I also try my best to serve in my church. I have helped in many different aspects. I visit ladies in my church each month to lift their spirits and teach them. I have helped with the young children teaching them and also the youth. I feel as I serve my fellow men that shows the Savior that I love Him. It also helps me to become more like the Savior as I try to emulate His life. My most important role in living my faith is within my home with my family. We try to study the scriptures as a family everyday and we pray together morning and night. This not only helps set an example to my children, but also strengthens our relationship with each other and our Savior. I have many weaknesses and make plenty of mistakes, but the Lord knows my heart and that I try my best everyday. I go to church every Sunday and I love it. I need church every week to give me the spiritual strength I need to make it throughout the week. I love how my religion helps me to be a better person and lifts me up. I love how my religion draws my closer to the Savior and God as I abide by its precepts.
