Hi I'm Porter

I am a people person, a lover of life, a missionary for my church, and I am a Mormon

About Me

I am from Rexburg, Idaho, and when I'm back home I love to fish, camp, hike, essentially anything outdoors. I love music, and in high school played the trumpet and was on my local ballroom dance team. I am currently serving a mission for my church in Independence Missouri, and love it so much! I am about to complete my service as a missionary, and have truly cherished the time I've spent here. I absolutely love writing and the English language, as well as history and humanities. I have a wonderful family who I love with all my heart, they are my greatest joy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a Mormon, and come from a long line of Mormons, but that does not mean my faith is blind. I have often heard people say that you will generally adhere to the religion of your parents because that is how you were raised, but I have had to go through the same process of conversion that any convert does. My faith has been tested on numerous occasions, but through these experiences my commitment to the gospel only grows stronger. I have a deep love for my Savior Jesus Christ, and through my teenage years, when I faced temptations and trials and heartache, He was always the one to buoy me up and show me how to keep going. I know for myself that if I adhere to His gospel principles, I will have joy in this life, no matter what hardship and pain may come my way.

How I live my faith

I grew up in an area where there are many Mormons, and the majority of my friends and associates shared my beliefs, but that made adhering to them all the more important, not because it was expected of me, but because I could see examples all around me of how it could bless my life. I face the same temptations and trials that anyone else does, but I have been given a knowledge of how to overcome them, and for that I am very grateful. I am currently serving as a missionary for the church in the Independence Missouri area, and am looking foreward for more opportunities to live and share my faith with everyone I meet.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Well, I am currently serving as a missionary for the Church, and for me, the answer to that question is that I have seen the principles and power of this church bless my life so greatly that I want to share those blessings with others. I want other people to know as I know what this Gospel can do for individuals and families. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I have never had a grand vision or heard a voice or anything like that, but as I go through my life, small things happen to bless me, little by little, until I can't deny that there is a divine hand in my life, that someone loves me on a grander scale than a mortal one. I also know just by going outside. There is incredible intricacy in the tiniest insect to the grandest mountain, and these things, to me, are like signitures of God's existence and His love for His children. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We do not worship Joseph Smith, our worship is devoted to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, but we revere Joseph Smith, as a prophet. We talk of him often because he, through our Savior Jesus Christ, restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth, in its fullness. We as missionaries also frequently talk of him because he faced a simillar experience as many of the people we teach. He had a deep desire to know eternal truths, humbly searched the scriptures, pondered, and prayed, and recieved an answer, just as we teach investigators of our faith to do. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Missionaries will talk to you about Jesus Christ, and the ways He shows his love for us, including the restoration of His true gospel, His and our Heavenly Father's grand plan of happiness, and Christ's fulfilling of that plan through His atonement. Show more Show less
