Hi I'm Charlie

I grew up in northern Arizona. I graduated from an Arizona university and have been an accountant ever since. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family have been in the church for a few generations and I grew up in a logging community in northern Arizona. I did serve two years as a missionary in Germany before completing my schooling and starting work. I worked for a number of years as an auditor for an international accounting firm. I then became a controller for a small non-profit agency. Since then I have been a controller for several small companies including a small restaurant chain and a couple of construction companies. Presently I am back working for another non-profit. I met my future wife while a member of a singles congregation. We have been married for over 30 years and have five wonderful children. We have been blessed to be able to keep jobs in the same metropolitan area our whole married life. We are still in the same home where we started in as a young married couple. It was a little crowded when the kids were all home but as empty nesters there is more than enough room.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and never really gave much thought to the subject or compared my religion with others while I was growing up. There were a lot of other Mormon's in our town and that was just the way things were. As I approached the age to go on a mission (age 19) I was away at the university. I remained active in a student congregation but I did begin to think a lot more about whether I could represent the church honestly as a missionary. I never did look at other religions or churches in any serious way but I did seriously look at my own personal testimony of Jesus and of the church. I had always been taught that a true testimony and a strong faith are gifts of the Spirit of God or the Holy Ghost which come to those who keep the commandments; who study the gospel and who ask in fervent prayer. I tried this approach by studying the Bible and the Book of Mormon, by living the best I could and by taking many opportunities to pray specifically for a testimony. The Spirit did touch my heart on many occasions and I can say that I do have a strong faith and testimony of the atonement of our Savior and of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and the prophetic mission of Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I have always been active in the church and it has been a great blessing. I think my favorite calling is that of a home teacher. I currently have two families and two single individuals to visit. There are some serious health and other issues in the lives of these families and it is a blessing to me and hope to them to be able to visit with them at least once a month. I have also been a member of a Bishopric, a scout leader and a teacher of an adult class in the Sunday School. Right now I am a Primary teacher which is another favorite calling. I get to teach nine and ten year old children every Sunday. I have had many other callings over the years and all have been a blessing and a growing experience for me. My wife and I have not been too active in general community affairs but we have tried to be very supportive to the schools and various other organizations that our children were involved with as they grew up. We were involved in everything from swim and soccer teams to being chaperones for band trips along with a number of other organizations.
