Hi I'm Matt

I'm a warehouseman by day and a German teacher by night. I have 8 kids, love roller hockey and improv comedy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the disco/classic rock and roll era, attended high school in central phoenix. I was raised by a sports fanatic and started playing ice hockey when I was eight. I also was inspired by the stand up comedy of Bill Cosby and the impersonations of Rich Little. By the time I was high school age I was trying to do my own sets in stand up at family gatherings, school programs and church activities. I served as a missionary in Germany, and grew to love the people, the country and the process of learning and teaching a second language. As an adult I have discovered improv comedy which requires great skill, team work and creativity. I love sharing these passions with my wife, children and others.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both converts to the Church. My father was raised as a southern Baptist and my mother as a Catholic. My parents and I have great love respect for the people of these faiths but have developed deep testimony and a great conviction for the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith. I love all of the scriptures, Old and new testaments, but especially the witness of Christ in the Book of Mormon. I can communicate with my Father in Heaven as I read them. And he does speak to my heart and mind as I do. I have an overwhelming love for the people that I associate with in the Church. I have witnessed these people give so much of themselves in the service of others (without pay) motivated by their convictions of the heart and selfless love. I met the woman of my dreams at a church dance and we have been married for 25 years. I feel so grateful to the Lord that my wife raises our children with the standards of the Church so that they can choose to be free of the worldy traps of alcohol, drugs and immoral behavior and learn to have hope in a better world, and receive forgiveness for sin through the grace of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I love serving the Lord in whatever capacity that I am called to do. The Lord knows better than we do, what experiences we need, when we need them, and who can benefit from the service that we give. I enjoy teaching and meeting people, and have served in administrative capacities as well. I love the blessings of home teaching and having home teachers visit us to make sure that the needs of all are being met. Though I am not perfect, and stumble on occasion, I try to be an example of what I believe in, at work, school, play and in my home. My wife and children set a good example for me and inspire me to do better. I love to ponder how my beliefs apply in the real world and I am grateful that I know... comfort and hope can be received through the power of God in prayer.
