Hi I'm Shanna

I grew up in a close knit farming community, where my love for wide open spaces was cultivated. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a close knit family with three sisters and one brother. Growing up I always loved to sing and perform with local theater groups. As an adult my love for music continues, and I can usually be found singing or humming as I do my work. I met my husband in the fall of 2008 and in June 2009 we were married. I graduated with an Associates Degree in 2011 and now spend my time keeping our home, learning how to sew, crafting, and making various hair accessories for myself, family members and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that was already LDS, my parents were both converts and instilled in us the values and beliefs of the LDS faith. As I grew older I began to rebel againts these beliefs, in part because I was young and because of personal issues I had within myself. For a few years I became inactive in the church, and fell away from many of its values, but I always knew in my heart what I was doing was wrong. I always knew that when it came to my spouse and my future children there was no other religion that I wanted in our lives but that of the LDS church. It wasn't until the summer of 2008 that I started to turn back to the church. I had some long standing issues with people that I had always been friends with, and one evening after an emotional experience my mother suggested I pray about finding new friends. I am sad to say I did not take her advice. The next morning I went to church, and was approached by a group of LDS youth I had known my whole life, but had not befriended, who invited me to the nearby singles ward and to all their activities they had going on that week, when I told my mother what happened she smiled and told me that HER prayer had been answered! Over that summer I spent my days with these friends, for the first time in a long time feeling as if I belonged. One evening when telling one of these friends this story he told me the very night that my mother was praying for me, he had felt he really needed to find and talk to me! I knew this was Heavenly Fathers way of helping me make that decision to begin practicing my faith again, and though it was a long hard process to find my way back to the Gospel it is an experience my family will be eternally grateful for.

How I live my faith

I am the secretary in the youth program for the girls. This means I help organize activities and keep track of important information so the program runs smoothly. On Wednesday nights I attend the activities the girls have planned and try and help them achieve their goals as well as I can. Once a month I have all the girls over to my house where we all take turns teaching different recipes that the girls prepare themselves. I also am in charge of attendance, and announcements on Sundays so the leaders know who needs outreach and the girls know what to expect to be doing over the course of the year.
