Hi I'm Anthony

My name is Anthony or Elder Van Horn, I´m a huge sports fan, I have a twin sister, and I´m a missionary serving in Bolivia.

About Me

My name is Anthony, and i love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm currently a full time missionary serving in the Bolivia, Cochabamba mission and i couldn't be more excited. I'm a convert to the church and so missionary work is personal and very special to me. I converted when i was 16, waited until 18 to be baptized, and now i'm 20 and serving a mission. One reason why i love the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that family is a central part of God's plan for us to be happy in this life and the next. I love knowing that i can be with my family for all eternity and be with those i love forever. I also love sports. Soccer and football especially. I'm from Washington State, and so i love the Sounders and Seahawks! Other than that, i love my friends, doing fun and active things, and more than anything i love the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

When i turned eight my birthday consisted of cake, friends, family, and gifts. My ninth through seventeenth birthdays were exactly the same. It was my eighteenth birthday that was one of the most memorable and life changing days. I have made hundreds of pinky promises and other variations of promises in my life, but it was on my eighteenth birthday that i made a covenant with the Lord when i stepped into the font to be baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am a convert to the church. I had my first lesson with the missionaries when i was sixteen and that is when i really felt lowly in heart and just extremely small when i found out what Christ did for me. i felt that way because the missionaries taught me about the atonement of Christ and His suffering in Gethsemane. That followed with a missionary looking at me and saying "Anthony, if you were the only one on earth, Jesus Christ would have done all that he did, go through all the pain and suffering that he did, just for you Anthony!!" How have i been living my life the way i was when Christ had done all of that just for me, someone who doesn't really know who He is? From that moment i wanted to follow His example and be baptized. The issue was i needed parental permission. Long story short is that my parents said no, and they were very unhappy with my choice in being Mormon. I didn't let that detour my want to get to know Christ. i had two years until my eighteenth birthday until i could be baptized so i used that time to get to know the person who loves me more than anyone in the whole world. I read the whole book of Mormon in a month and a half, went to seminary when i could, and went to any activities my parents would allow since they wouldn't let me do anything gospel related. Long behold my 18th birthday came and it was one of the happiest day of my life. I am a Mormon because i love Jesus Christ. This is His Church and i will try to follow His example until the day i die.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith simply by being alive. I'm aspiring to encompass all that i do in my faith. How i live my faith is i bike about 20 minutes to the nearest church, and living in Washington means that the weather isn't always pleasant. Although biking early in the morning is usually hard to make enjoyable when you can be sleeping. The way i look at it is Christ died for me, so i can do something simple and easy in comparison and bike to go to activities like church and young men's, so i can learn about Him. I live my faith by doing things to help my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ despite being the only Mormon in my family. I also teach eight year old children about what Christ has done for us and it is one of the most rewarding things I've done. I also do what i can to prepare to my mission so i can live my faith for two years and serve the Lord and sacrifice two years of my life for him. The more i learn about our savior, Jesus Christ, the easier it is to live my faith. My faith has made me happier than i have ever been, ever could be, and i am getting happier and happier.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Anthony
The blessing i think that can sum up what blessings you can receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible and other scriptures is true happiness. I want to emphasize 'true' because what i mean by that is that the happiness you receive from the knowledge you gain from learning about Jesus Christ, knowing that you ARE loved, that you have a purpose on earth, and so many others is unlike anything in the world. It's a happiness that everyone in the whole world can feel and never ends. It's a nonstop happiness as long as you just keep on reading the scriptures, ponder them, and praying to understand! It has taught me that i can pray to our Heavenly Father and that He does hear and answer my prayers because he loves me more than i can imagine, as well as everyone else on earth. That is a blessing to me because there are days when i feel no one understands me and no one is there to listen, but Heavenly Father is always there and always will be there. Another blessing is the knowledge that families can be forever through the Lord's plan, and that we can spend forever with those we love in endless happiness. The more you read the scriptures the more blessings you will notice and/or receive. I promise! Show more Show less
