Hi I'm Dan

I'm an entrepreneur, a drummer, and a sleep-deprived MBA student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up riding motorcycles, playing soccer, and generally getting dirty in the mountains of Northern California. My family loves the outdoors and we would go camping, fishing, and boating often. I loved my childhood and wish I had more time to do those things now, but I'm starting my MBA at the University of Texas at Austin. I don't sleep much anymore :) as I left a great job in Seattle at PopCap Games to come back to school and pursue my dream of starting my own company. I love technology and have been involved in the technology startup community for the past decade and always have a burning desire to be on the leading edge of our tech driven economy. When I do have downtime, I usually go out with friends to watch movies or sporting events. I'm a big football and soccer fan and love to watch and play both sports, but always get killed in fantasy leagues ;). I love inspiring and thought provoking books and movies and am constantly excited about upcoming movies and books.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because there is absolutely, undeniably something unique and special about this religion that makes people truly happy. I grew up in a family with my mother who was a decently active member of the Mormon church and a nice, agnostic father. There were definitely tensions sometime when my dad and other family members wanted to go to the lake on Sunday and tried to entice the family to miss church in order to go. I cannot say that we didn't sometimes succumb (as spending time with family is important and so is balancing your beliefs with other people's viewpoints), but I can tell you that even though boating and the lake is fun, it doesn't provide the fulfillment and lasting joy of hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ at church. Even when I was young and didn't have a great deal of doctrinal knowledge about the gospel, I always knew there was a special feeling that was strong and sweet which testified this is the place God wanted me to be. God does communicate through our feelings of what's good and bad and I know that this church is good. I went on a mission to Wisconsin from ages 19-21 and can honestly say it was the best two years of my life. If you ever want to know true joy, forget of yourself and what the world deems as important and focus on helping others...it's life changing.

How I live my faith

I have been in many leadership functions in the church and love to serve. Currently, i teach the Sunday school class at our singles congregation on the UT campus. This does take time away from my rigorous MBA studies, but it is well worth it and very enjoyable. Plus, the material is infinitely more important!
