Hi I'm James!

I love people, I'm always in the mood for a good joke, dinner, and a movie, I'm a finance major, I love life, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah and as a member of the Church. My family rocks. I have 3 older sisters, so that makes me the baby and the only boy.. So... in other words, the favorite :)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is simply the smartest thing to do. It's kind of like Pascal's Wager. I read a lot about other religions and beliefs. I questioned a lot. I was finding a lot of doctrine and beliefs, etc., that didn't match up with what I felt was true. I had come to the conclusion through all my studies that Jesus of Nazareth really was the Savior of the world. I just didn't know what sect of Christianity I really thought was for me. Then I read a short book called The Strength of the Mormon Position by Orson F. Whitney. After reading up to the section titled "A Catholic Utterance" I decided I needed to actually read that Book of Mormon everyone was talking about and find out for myself what it said. I read the Book of Mormon, and I took Moroni's advice in the last chapter- I prayed and asked God if it were true. He told me by the power of the Holy Ghost that it was true. That was the thing I had missed in all my studies. I hadn't actually gone to the Source of all truth and asked Him what was true. It came as no surprise, though, that He answered me immediately as I asked. I realized that it isn't "what religion is best for me," but it's "what does God want for me?" I can't really describe how I felt, but I can tell you that I know it's true! Those people really lived! Their experiences are real! Joseph Smith really is the prophet of the Restoration! Jesus is the Christ, and I know it.

How I live my faith

I participated in youth activities growing up and it was a lot of fun. I also served in the nursery for a while with the 1 1/2 - 3-year-olds. It was fun! I loved eating treats and playing toys, and wrappin it all up with a short, simple gospel lesson. I served a full-time mission in South Carolina from 2011-2013. I just want to be a good boy! I want to please Father in Heaven, so I do my home teaching and fulfill my callings.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Nah, we don't worship Joseph Smith. He was the first prophet in these latter days, and as such we respect him and listen to his teachings. We follow our current prophet, Thomas S. Monson, today as well. They, like Moses of old, receive direct revelation for the Church as a whole, and guide us as the Lord directs. But we don't worship the prophet, otherwise the Church would be called "the Church of Joseph Smith" or something. But as you can see, we are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We worship God the Eternal Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

As members of the Church we are taught gospel principles. As you grow to love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, you desire to learn more about what they have done for you. Once you know, you can't help but try and share that with others so they can feel of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's love! We love what we know, and we want to share it with those we love.
