Hi I'm Scott

I work in eCommerce Marketing, I enjoy graphic art, hiking, snowboarding and raggae music.

About Me

I 'm a young advertising/marketing professional in the Portland, OR area. I love outdoor adventure in the mountains or at the coast, especially snowboarding. I spend most of my time with my awesome wife, we are expecting our first son this year! Discussing all the deep questions about life and the universe with people of all backgrounds and faiths is one of my favorite things to do.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was growing up I had lots of friends that believed in God, though we were in different religions. As we grew to be teenagers most of my friends decided believing in a God that we don't see, and following his rules was an outdated, lame idea. I was raised by a strong Latter-day Saint Christian family. When I was 16 years old I really had to decide if I was going to follow my friends and the 'way of the world' or find a testimony for myself of God and Jesus Christ. Through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible, then praying to God and asking if he was there, I received a feeling for myself that God is real and that Jesus is the Christ. When I was 19 years of age I served a two year mission in Rochester, NY. There in the streets of New York while teaching others the word of God and serving my brothers and sisters, I was able to see the positive change in people brought about by the teachings of Jesus Christ. This solidified my faith in God and now I know I will always be believer in God, a Mormon, and follow the teachings of his son Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Quietly following the example that Jesus Christ set while he was on the earth is how I try to live my faith. I tend to fit into the modern world, I don't wear my feelings on my sleeve. I've changed so much as I've tried to live like Christ in all that I do. Some people think you can't change, that its somehow wrong to ask someone to change but I know we all can. When I see people stuck in a rut, I try to help them out as quick as I can. If they are in a bad spiral, I invite them to come look to Jesus Christ and make small changes to be more like him. I feel like that can help them to find happiness.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

The main thing you need to know about the Book of Mormon is that it is another witness of Jesus Christ visiting the ancient people that live here in the America's after his resurrection. It details how a group of these people were Christians and new of his life and sacrifice at death in Jerusalem. They new of these things through prophets that were among them who taught the word of God to their people. The Book of Mormon is so important because it backs up our faith in Christ in this world that keeps getting worse and try's to steal our faith in God and his son Jesus Christ. I have personally seen those who have lost their faith in God have it restored by reading and praying over the Book of Mormon. Once they felt of its truth, they had their faith in Jesus Christ, his sacrifice for us, and his teachings taught in the Bible restored once again. If you want to know how we got the Book of Mormon. Like many other ancient texts it was hidden in the earth for over a thousand years. In the early 1820's a young man who was seeking the truth about God and his teachings was led to the record by heavenly visitors. He dug it up and was commanded to translate it by the power of the Holy Ghost from its ancient language into English. This is how we got the book we have today as the Book of Mormon. It details the life and Gospel teachings of the ancient Christian Prophets here in the America's. It is named after one of those Prophets Show more Show less
