Hi I'm Monica

I read. I mother my little growing family. I hope to teach my sons to be kind. I like to go fast. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom, with a young son and identical twin boys on the way. I spend lots of time caring for the men in my life, and I love it. I like to say I'm a skier (you pick: water or snow), a musician, a fencer, and ride motorcycles, but right now all I have time for is reading. It's amazing how you can squeeze a little Umberto Eco, Jose Saramago, or even Louis L'Amour into a day of diapers and dishes. But there's lots of time for love and awe as I see my little man grow and absorb things. I look for children that he might grow into, and try to anticipate the man he will be. I hope each of my sons has kindness, that he is confident, and that he always knows his parents love him. And that he's an excellent skier!

Why I am a Mormon

My family has been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for generations. It's a heritage I feel close to. But I made the decision when I was 8 years old, and remake it daily, to live my life as a follower of Christ. To be a Mormon. Sometimes it sounds like a hard thing to do, to commit to live a modern life within the commandments and with traditional values. But the benefits are worth it. I know that following the teachings of Jesus Christ, as set down as doctrine by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is the path to true happiness and joy. I have felt the love the Savior has for me, and I know that He is conscious of and involved in my life and well-being. I know that He is anxious to help me, if I will but follow His commandments and give my burdens to Him. I've done both. I'm not perfect, and have had to make some course corrections, and been happier as I strive to do what's right. The Church and it's teachings are an anchor for me. When I have questions (and I do, all the time) about how to behave, and what decisions to make, I turn to the vast library of guidance from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and revelation from latter-day prophets. And I turn to prayer. I have had countless prayers answered over the years, big and small. The Church has never led me astray.

How I live my faith

This Church is a great training ground. I've had many different responsibilities, and learned from each. When I was single, I helped organize regional events pulling up to 350 singles, ages 18-30, 2 to 3 times a week to social and uplifting events. I've spent time coordinating activities for girls ages 8-11, and still feel close to them. They're now excellent babysitters! I've taught songs to and led music time for children ages 3-11; what a challenge! But what great blessings! I've taught Sunday School lessons to the women's group, and cherished the grandmothers in the back row.
