Hi I'm Katie

I'm a wife and mom to three. I grew up in Idaho with five sisters. I LOVE my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Illinois while my Dad was serving in the Air Force but we moved to Idaho when I was little. I was raised in Idaho Falls, ID. After high school, I attended Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) where I met my husband. When I first heard him talk, I loved his southern accent and bright blue eyes, and decided I wanted to get to know him better. He fell madly in love with me (wink, wink) and we've been married for almost 12 years now. He's my absolute best friend and together we have two girls and a son and they are we love being parents! Having kids is really like having my very own piece of heaven here on earth! Only a year after being married, we moved to Athens, GA where my husband finished his schooling at the University of Georgia and I've been working as a full time MOM for almost 9 years now. I love to clean and organize things (strange, I know), do crafts, decorate my house, shop, get pedicures, travel and read. I love service projects! I feel closest to Heavenly Father when I'm serving others. Mostly though, I love to spend time with my husband and kids. Together we love to camp, hike, swim, and be silly and crazy! We love to sing loud in the car when no one else can hear us! I also have 5 sisters who are my best friends. We take advantage of any chance we have to get together and make memories (and steal each others clothes).

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a teenager, my parents were going through a rough time and weren't very diligent about attending church. I didn't quite understand why my parents, who had raised me up to that point in the church, would all the sudden start living in a way that they had taught me not to. I felt very confused and disappointed, not really knowing what to do. I remember that my mom would often want to go and do things on Sundays during our normal church time and I felt like she was testing me to see if I would go with her or go to church. Each Sunday that I was away, I felt an overwhelming witness from the Holy Spirit that I needed to be at church! I remember praying that I would have the courage to do what I knew was right and that my family would have a desire to be at church with me. I would wake up on Sunday mornings, and invite the rest of the family to go to church with me. Sometimes I could get my sister to go, sometimes I could get my dad to go and a lot of times I was there by myself but, I was NOT ALONE. That is what I love most about being a Mormon. You are never alone in this church! There is always someone there to love you, know you, serve you. Anywhere you go all around the world in any congregation, you have instant friends and family. I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father who knows and loves ME and is very aware of my needs and desires. When my mom passed away suddenly 3 years ago my heart was broken. I was just about to have a baby and she had purchased a plane ticket to come visit me just days before she died, which I was very excited about. But despite the heartache, I am grateful for this wonderful church that teaches me of life after death and the blessing of eternal families. I know that we will all be with our loved ones again and it will be a very happy reunion. I encourage all to come see what the Mormon church has to offer!

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith each and every day by serving my family! As a family, we read from the Book of Mormon every night before bed and then kneel down and have family prayer. This special time for us definitely brings us closer together and closer to our loving Heavenly Father. Our family also enjoys coming together on Monday evenings and having "Family Home Evening." This is when we prepare a short spiritual message or lesson for each other, sing songs together and always have a treat! I especially enjoy when my children prepare the lesson and teach me! I am always humbled by their knowledge and example. I currently serve in the church by teaching Sunday School to the youth ages 12 & 13. I enjoy it so much! I firmly believe that if a person makes the effort to come to church on Sunday, then they deserve to be taught and I am so grateful to be a part of that teaching. Most importantly, I try to live my faith by praying every day and thanking Heavenly Father for all that He has given me and asking for guidance and help.
