Hi I'm Laurie.

I am a beloved wife, a new-ish mother, an aspiring writer and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a writer and I aspire to break into the young adult fiction market. I believe some of the sharpest authors on the market are writing for young adults and someday I hope to join their happy band. When I'm not writing, I am cooking up delicious messes for my superb husband and tending to my young son. While mothering sometimes makes me tired and grouchy, other times it sprinkles the most amazing little flashes of golden light into my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it makes sense to me. I have seen the hand of God in my life time and time again--lifting me up when I was crushed, guiding me when I was lost, holding my hand to bring me closer to Jesus Christ. I believe that God speaks to us in a lot of different ways: through the order and beauty of nature, in the moments when our minds and hearts are quiet, and through His prophets and scriptures. I believe God speaks to my heart in flashes of pure truth, whether it be witnessing the order of science and motion and light, seeing first-hand the innate goodness in people, or feeling His glory through music and art. I am a member of the Mormon church because I believe in a God of order. I believe that He has set up rules and structure to help us consistently seek Him out and find a way through our trials and sins. I believe that His way is through Jesus Christ, who atoned for our sins to give us a fallback

How I live my faith

My husband and I are ward missionaries, which means we spend time with the new converts in our congregation, helping them feel welcome. I also work with the young girls age 8-11 in our congregation, helping them develop their talents and a testimony of Jesus Christ through service, scripture study and prayer. On a personal level, I try to read the Book of Mormon every day. It is a marvelous book that bolsters my testimony of God, Jesus Christ and the Bible. I also believe in the power of prayer and personal revelation. God gives me gentle reminders through the Holy Ghost and will answer my prayers, even over the foolish little things. God has helped me remember recipes, find my car keys, let go of anger and He directs me--sometimes very specifically--how to best reach out to the people I love. My husband and I pray together every day because we believe that we need the Lord on our side. After all, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:30)
