Hi I'm Sherry

I'm not a housewife, I'm a HOMEmaker. I love being a wife to an amazing man and mother to 5 incredible kids. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up in the midwest in a Mormon home always made me different. It wasn't uncommon to have people ask why I always content. At Brigham Young University, I earned a bachelor's degree in Social Work and then went on to do graduate work in Educational Psychology. For the next few years I taught Special Education. But what I'd really always wanted to do was be a homemaker....think about that word...homemaker. I wanted to make a home...a place where people want to come to grow, learn, laugh, cry and best of all LOVE. What would happen in our world if there was more of that going on...HOMEmaking? A house is a place where people stop to eat and sleep, but a home is something entirely different. It's sad to say, but it seems that in spite of having a house, there are still a lot of people in the world that seem "HOME"less. They lack that nurturing environment that teaches them each day that they are important, capable, beautiful and most of all important in the eyes of their Heavenly Father. That's what we try to teach in our home. It's not perfect, by a long shot...it's often loud, frequently messy and sometimes just downright chaotic. But we try each day to make it a home where everyone knows they are LOVED. I am a content homemaker.

Why I am a Mormon

Knowing that my Heavenly Father knows and loves ME, that means everything. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to see the big picture. It helps me to understand where I came from, why I'm here, what His plan is for me in this life and where I'll go when I die. That perspective helps me get up each day and do what needs to be done, with a smile. As a parent I'm so grateful for the direction and peace that the gospel brings. It's really tough to raise kids with the world in the state it's in. I'm so grateful to have the scriptures that give us the example of Jesus Christ to follow. Reading about Christ's life and His teachings helps me to know who I want to be and who I want to help my children to become like too. What better parenting manual could we have? Add to that having a living prophet on the earth today. Knowing that he can speak to us and let us know God's will for us today, right now, that is so powerful. My family is my greatest joy. The gospel helps me to understand how we fit together in our Heavenly Father's plan. We fit together...eternally. It's just as it should be. And so, that knowledge helps me want to help my family be the best it can be here on this earth as we prepare to be together forever.

How I live my faith

The great thing about the gospel of Jesus Christ is that it is so simple. Try to be like Jesus. Treat others the way He would. Now, I'm far from perfect, just ask my kids, but I know when I keep that my mindset, my Heavenly Father will help me accomplish whatever He needs me to do. Some days life can seem daunting with all that needs to happen with a busy family, commitments in the community and the work I do in the church with the youth. But on the days I start by asking my Heavenly Father what he wants me to do with my day, I seem to have time for it all and often time to spare to do something else that brings joy.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Absolutely! That knowledge is what makes every effort, every day worth it. It just doesn't make sense to think that we invest everything we have into making our family strong and happy in this life, only to have those relationships dissolve with death. We work every day to help one another be the very best we can in this life so that when we pass on to the next life we'll be prepared to enjoy the eternities together. Show more Show less
