Hi I'm Karen Watkins

I'm a Mormon. I grew up on a farm in the small town of Thorp, Washington. I was a tom boy and still enjoy being out of doors.

About Me

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother. I enjoy spending time especially in the summer with my grandkids. I have lived in small communities all my life and enjoy small town living in rural areas. I also enjoyed playing softball and volleyball in my younger yrs. I've always enjoyed spending lots of time out doors, not in the house. I like to garden and enjoy working in my yard. I work as para-educator in special ed. and enjoy working with young children. I come from a middle sized family, and we get together for family reunions every two yrs. My husband John, is Canadian and we lived in British Columbia for the first 12 yrs of our marriage and then moved back to Washington to be closer to my family, and so our children could enjoy the full benefits of our church ward with all the programs, while they were growing up.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a Mormon all my life, my mother's family were some of the pioneers who came across the ocean and the prairie to Salt Lake. While I was growing up our family didn't attend church regularly, but I gained a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ while I was growing up. I attended young womens and seminary programs as a youth, but I think my testimony has become much stronger in the past 25 yrs. since we've become more involved in all the church programs. I served for about 18yrs. off and on with the ward and stake young womens program and the girls camp each yr. during that time. It's so wonderful to watch young girls learn about the holy spirit and see their testimonies grow as they study the bible and book of Mormon and learn more about our Savior and Heavenly Father. I enjoy helping people understand the gospel and what we believe. I know my Heavenly Father answers prayers because he has answered mine many times. I also know he has a plan for me and has helped me find that path for my life. I know I will see my family and friends when I pass on into the hereafter.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church each week, studying my scriptures, and praying to my Heavenly Father. I have been a visiting teacher for the past 25yr. Which is we visit other ladies in our ward each month to give them a gospel message and give them any help they might need. I've served in the young women program for more than 18 of those yrs. as a counselor, a teacher, an adviser, a camp director and as president of our ward young womens program as well as a member of our stake y.w. presidency and the President. I've served in our churches womans organization as a teacher a counselor to the president and as the president. I've also served in our Primary organization (children 18 mo. to 12 yrs.) as a teacher, and 12 yr. old girls achievement day leader. I've been a co-chair person for our Night of Nativity yearly event. I've been involved in a couple of major service work projects in our community that were organized by our church. Right now I'm serving as our ward employment specialist, to help those who are seeking employment, or to better their employment opportunities. We always try to support other friends and family members in their callings.
