Hi I'm Willis

I grew up in a small town in southern Idaho. I'm a retired bridge engineer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golf. Following graduation from High School, I spent three summers on a fire control lookout in the Challis National Forest of Idaho's wilderness area. I received my BS Degree in Civil Engineering. I am a father, have four wonderful children and seventeen beautiful grandchildren. I worked for 28 years for the Department of Transportation performing bridge design and inspection, and managed a Bridge Maintenance Section, Bridge Condition Section, Bridge Construction Plans Section, and a Structural Design Section. I later spent approximately 10 years in the private sector performing bridge design and project management. My wife and I enjoy retirement, spending time with our children and grandchildren and serving in the church.

Why I am a Mormon

As a child, I attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with my mother and grandmother. I loved the stories my grandmother would tell about her early years spent in her Aunt Amelia and Uncle Brigham (Young's) home in Salt Lake City where she grew up. She would show us pieces of furniture, jewelry, or china that had been in Amelia's home. My testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel has come over a lifetime of service in the church and in studying the Standard Works of the Church, i.e., the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and the Bible. I've observed and experienced miracles through the administration of priesthood blessings and received promptings and impressions in answer to sincere prayers. I have received a sure knowledge that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that we are his children. That Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet chosen to establish Christs Church in this latter-day. I am grateful for my testimony and the assurance that it gives me and my family as we face life's challenges and acknowledge the many blessing we receive as we strive to live the gospel and keep the covenants we have made with our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity and blessing to serve in many church callings over the years. Working with and teaching the youth, serving as a bishop in two wards and a branch president over a young single adult branch. These leadership positions have given me an opportunity to work closely with and counsel the youth and adults as they meet life's challenges. I served for 10 years as a Counselor in the Stake Presidency. In this leadership role, we provided leadership for seven wards or branches working with and training the Bishoprics or Branch Presidencies. My wife and I currently serve as Employment Service Specialists in our Stake Employment Center. We are also blessed to work in the Temple one day each week.
