Hi I'm Ashley!

I love photography. I spent a year teaching English in China. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a family of four. Mom, Dad and my baby sister. My Dad was in the military so we did a little moving around but spent most of our time in Arizona. I LOVE any activity that has to do with water. Surfing, swimming, boating. You name it, I'm there! I did swim team all growing up and worked as a Lifeguard and Swim Teacher/Manager for about 6 years. I go to school at an Arizona University and am working on a double major in Elementary and Special Education. I love working with special needs children. They are so fun and full of life! I took a year off school to go teach English in China. Going to China was one of the best experiences of my life. I loved experiencing a new culture and way of life. I loved learning the language, teaching the kids, and eating anything and everything the Chinese people put infront of me. Its given me such a passion for travel and I hope, after I'm done with school, to get a few more stamps in that passport! In High School I took photography classes and worked on the Yearbook staff. It was rare you ever saw me without a camera. Photography is my minor in school now and I LOVE it! I have always loved art and had a great appreciation for it.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents were not raised as Mormons. They joined the church at age sixteen. My Father joined as a result of two young missionaries who knocked at his door one afternoon. My Mom made friends with some Mormon girls from her High School. They would frequently invite her to activities, until one day, she wanted to know more. As for me, I was born into the church. I grew up attending church every Sunday and learned a lot of lessons there that blessed my life. Most of my friends were not members of the church and would tease me on occasion about all of the rules we had to follow. Soon after I moved away from home I had some trials come into my life. I felt lonely and misunderstood. No matter who I turned to I still felt this heaviness in my heart. I was going on a jog one day when I remember something I had learned in church as a young child. "Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ you can be fully healed." I got down on my knees one night to say a prayer. I felt a warm feeling come over me. I felt of my Heavenly Fathers love for me. That prayer prompted me to begin reading from the Book of Mormon. Through reading the Book of Mormon and several prayers later I felt a lifting of my burdens. I felt happier, lighter, and as if I had the strength to go onward. Since that time many heartfelt prayers have followed. I know that Heavenly Father has prepared a way for us to be happy and I am so thankful to have been thrown so directly into the path of His gospel. I am thankful everyday that I had parents that were seeking for and found His gospel.

How I live my faith

Its hard to put my finger on exactly one way I live my faith. It is apart of everything I do. My whole life is centered around learning and growing to become who my Heavenly Father would have me be. Its a gradual process with many bumps along the way, but I am so thankful for my Savior and the strength He continually gives me to keep going and be my best. I am currently serving as a full-time missionary and I LOVE what I do! We speak with so many people each day that have had trials in their life that leave them feeling sad, angry or alone. It has been so incredible to serve and learn from these people as they learn more about Christ's gospel. I could never claim to know exactly how these people feel. But Christ does. And as I draw nearer to Him, I feel a deep love for these people. Its indescribable. It has been incredible to witness as they allow the gospel to change, strengthen, enlighten and bless their lives.
