Hi I'm John

Music, fitness, and happiness is my life. I am a Latter-Day Saint, and I'm serving in the Philippines Quezon City Mission!

About Me

I have been working as a member in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Army Reserve in a Highland Infantry Unit. Because I am in missionary service, I am transferred in the Supplementary Reserves for the time being until I receive an honourable release from my mission. I also worked part-time as a Lifeguard Lifesaving Instructor at my local YMCA. I had the best of both worlds. Music is life to me. I taught myself how to play the guitar, piano, ukulele, and to sing--which is my favourite. I love a variety of genres, which include pop, r&b, hip-hop, rock, Latin, country, classical etc. I love to sing to what I listen to, especially to the songs popular artists write today. In my own world I am a recording artist; I write my own music which always includes my voice. Along with music, I also like to stay active. Fitness and nutrition is my main part of my daily agenda. I love to play sports like Basketball, Football, Volleyball, etc. I also actively participate in Martial Arts--I do Karate, Jiu Jitsu and MMA. When I come home from my mission I plan to study either Mechanical Engineering or Architecture where I can set up my own firm. Military side, I plan to transfer from my reserve Infantry unit as a Non-Commissioned Member into a reserve Combat Engineer Regiment where I can train to receive a commission as a Combat Engineer Officer. My greatest opportunity I have now is serving in lieu of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to my fellow men in the Philippines Quezon City Mission!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because Jesus Christ does, in fact, live. I believe this to be true. Everything in His gospel that has happened, that is happening now, and that will happen, testifies of His reality. His church is the only true church on this earth, and is the based foundation of every purpose in life. It is because I am a Mormon that has made me the person I am now and what I have wanted to be. It is because I am a Mormon that I testify and share the message of the Restored Gospel to the people I serve.

How I live my faith

Part of being members of this Gospel is centering Christ in our lives, and by living the way He lived in His sojourned life. The way He lived His mortal life exemplifies and testifies to me how I can live a happy life that is blessed and peaceful. His example is what I strive to follow, and I know that my life is full of happiness because I live by this. Because He lived and died for me, and lived again, I know that I can be redeemed by His grace. It is this grace that keeps pushing me to always choose the right so that I may always feel His Spirit, which is the greatest companion. Anywhere I am, I commit to follow Alma's precept: "to stand as witnesses at all times and at all places." That is, to strive to live the gospel in every case and situation. I am proud to say now that I actively exercise this principle as a missionary in the Philippines--to serve as He would administer, and to represent as if He were there. There is no greater joy as a missionary than service to others. It's the greatest feeling.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

John
I firmly witness and attest of a living prophet on Earth like Moses today, and that is Thomas S. Monson. Our Heavenly Father loves us, and He is always there. He has never ceased to talk to us, even if we have not been listening. He has always helped us during needed times, even when it has not been possible for Him to be physically there to help us. Heavenly Father cannot always come to us, but He still does not want us to be abandoned. That is why He has provided a loving prophet for us - so He can still be there for us; so he can still talk to us; so he can still help us. It is because He loves us. I am deeply grateful to have a prophet to be there to guide us in our day. It is wonderful to hear our divine Heavenly Father's voice through his chosen elect to help us in our lives. It is amazing that he shows His divinity and love for us through a loving prophet today. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

John
This book of scripture testifies to witness many truths, if not, all things. The writings contained offer validity of the divinity of God and His love, and the fact that Jesus Christ does live. It proves that our Heavenly Father keeps His promises, shown through the fulfillment of prophesies given by the prophets written therein. Because it has been directly translated from the Golden Plates, which is the very source of the Holy Scripture, it is the most correct book without error ever to be compiled into pages. The book itself is proof that Joseph Smith was a Prophet. And because of that, our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do live and they did appear to Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove. God's existence proven through The Book of Mormon is what makes this church true. There is no other book like The Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
