Hi I'm Davey.

I grew up in Salt Lake City. I'm studying English at university. I like mountains and trees. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm studying English in school. I love the idea of looking for meaning in everything...including the meaning of meaning. The same principles used in reading a poem and extracting some kind of essence apply in many aspects of life. I love language, too, and its power to convey ideas from one human mind to another. I also love being outside. The mountains of Utah, the beaches of California, the forests of New England--all are powerful and evocative to me. The planet is like one great evidence of a Creator. I believe in taking good care of nature. In high school, I started a club for people with no friends. Admittedly, it was a little tongue-in-cheek, but I firmly believe that serving other people and treating them well is one of the most important things we can learn in life, and that's what it was really about. It wasn't long before the No-Friends Club was the most popular non-scholastic club in my high school. It was really gratifying to see people take interest in learning about how to treat each other better--even if it was only for a light-hearted half-hour at lunch. I am the oldest of five siblings, and I love my family. Of all human beings in the world, I treasure their company the most. They have taught me so many things, and I owe much of who I am to them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but just like anyone else, I have been backed up against the wall of my faith and required to make a stand. As I have gone through life, I have been driven by circumstances to my knees and to the scriptures. Again and again, as I have sought for help, He has been there. The Gospel of Jesus Christ makes sense. God wants us to be happy, and for that reason, has given us a way to return to live with Him and with our families for eternity. That knowledge--specific and pure--was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. Now it is truly possible for us to find peace in this life and joy in the life to come.

How I live my faith

I try to let my faith permeate all areas of my life. I try to render my whole soul to God. Even though my weaknesses often prevent me from doing so as well as I would like, each day, through Jesus Christ, I can do a little better. I try to pray often--anytime I find myself in a moment of uncertainty, or if I have just experienced some great joy, I try to take it to God. He gives council; He reaffirms testimony; He grants all blessings. I know that I owe everything to Him. I believe that God gives us assignments based on what we can do and who we can become. I try, in all situations, to find out what God wants me to do, and what He wants me to learn. I ask Him to help me find ways to serve the people around me--because I know He wants His children to be happy, I figure I should help Him out.
