Hi I'm Spencer Shumway

I love sports, I love music, I love a good book, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have 6 siblings, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and a wonderful Mom and Dad! Family means everything to me, and family is the source of some of the greatest happiness I've felt here on earth. I was born in Hawaii, and mostly raised in Provo, Utah. I don't quite fit into any one mold. I play basketball, but I also play the standup bass in Symphonies, I play the guitar, but I love to read! My interests extend into almost every field there is. I can talk with anyone about anything, and I love doing just that. Talking to people. I am a huge Football fan, and I support BYU (of course) the university which I attend. I recently returned from a 2 year mission in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming. I loved it so much! I was able to serve my God and his children! I had questions, doubts, struggles and trials. I also experienced so many answers to prayers, miracles, and blessings! Ultimately, even though my mission was very difficult, my faith has been cemented, and I am so grateful! I'm now taking classes at BYU and I'm planning on studying Information Systems. Even though I have many weaknesses, and many shortcomings, I love God, and I believe He has established his Church again on the earth, and that I am blessed to be a part of it!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that God is real, because I know that Jesus Christ payed for my sins, and I know that Jesus Christ called Joseph Smith to be a prophet to restore His church. I know these things through the subtle witnesses of the Holy Ghost as I've read pondered and prayed about the scriptures. I have also found answers to every question I've ever needed answered. It logically makes sense, and that is very important to me. Even more important than that, is I've felt, in my soul, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Gods true church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a lot of different ways. I hold a few different callings(positions) in my ward(congregation). I am a Sunday school teacher, and I am an activities coordinator. I try my best to serve faithfully in these callings, but sometimes I get worn down. When I get discouraged, or I just don't want to do what I'm supposed to do, I just think how I would treat this work if I was getting paid, or if it was for my education. If I would give my best for those things, then why wouldn't I give my best for my Church and my God? I also try my best to live a good clean life. I try to be kind to everyone, and treat people the way I would like to be treated. because I have many faults I often fail in these attempts, but that is part of why I love being a Mormon. Mormons aren't perfect people, Mormons are just people that aren't content with their shortcomings. We believe that through Christ we can overcome all things! So again, while I have many glaring faults, I always want to be getting better in all aspects of my life, not just the traditional areas of life much of the world is so focused on (education, career, money, awards, etc.)
