Hi I'm Kara

I grew up in rural Canada and loved it. I live in Washington DC - how did that happen? I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in northern BC, Canada. We spent our days playing working and playing together as a family. There were always cows to be milked, chickens to be fed and a garden to weed. But we did it together and loved it. To this day, my siblings are my best friends even though 3500 miles separate us. I have always loved people and took every chance I could to be a part of every club and team I could through high school. I moved 1500 miles away from home to attend college. There I met a great guy and married him. We have been married 14 years and have four bright and beautiful children. We have moved many times and lived everywhere in between my home town in British Columbia and Washington DC, it has been quite an adventure. I love to travel, read and create anything with my hands. I am blessed to be able to raise my kids from home and enjoy making our home a wonderful place to be.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Savior Jesus Christ and His teachings. I love that this church is patterned after His church in the New Testament times. We have a prophet, twelve apostles and seventies. We believe in the restoration of the Priesthood that was on earth at the time Christ walked on this land. This has given me comfort and blessings beyond measure to know that we are striving to live each day as He did and following the example that was left for us. The family is central to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the emphasis on the family. Our Sunday lessons are full of gospel teachings and have helped me in rearing my own family in faith. In a time where evil is evident and surrounds us, I find peace in the gospel of Jesus Christ and am able to teach my children about faith and obedience, decisions and consequences. I know that as I pray for them daily they have someone watching out for them who cares deeply for them and their eternal welfare, I am not in this by myself. I know I receive divine guidance and assistance when I ask for help through prayer. I am also very grateful for the truths I have been taught regarding my divine nature. I am truly a daughter of God, as we are all His children, He wants us to be happy. His desire is for us to be happy and return home to live with Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gives me that hope and the tools I need to be able to return home to Him and be part of an eternal family.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith each day in the ways I interact with people and serve others. Currently I am serving in my congregations Primary - this is for children ages 18 months to 12 years, each age group has their own class that they meet with. I am able to teach them about Jesus Christ and his mission here on earth, about their divine nature, how to pray and how to recognize answers to prayers. We learn beautiful songs that testify of our Savior and build faith and testimony. I am grateful to be a part of a bigger "family" through my congregation that assists me in raising my family and building my testimony. We attend our church meetings each Sunday and observe the Sabbath day by focusing on spiritual things and avoiding shopping, eating out and attending sporting events. It has become a wonderful day to spend together as a family, playing games, reading together, enjoying drives through the country, and resting. We pay our tithing on all our income. 10% is not to much to give back to the Lord when I think of all that He has given to me. I have been richly blessed in my life and would be ungrateful to not give back.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Kara
I can't think of anything that doesn't tell me there is a God. All around us is beauty and miracles, we only need to look for them and recognize that God has given us all of this life, this earth, everything simply because He loves us. He created us, our spirits and our bodies, this earth and all that is found on it. This knowledge helps me daily as I view my surroundings and remember daily that He knows me and loves me.
