Hi I'm Valeen
I'm a Mormon. I'm also an eternal optimist, a mom, a wife, a director, an actress, a pianist, and a grant writer.
I am a mom to two great kids, one with special needs and one with Type 1 Diabetes. I'm married to a wonderful man who is patient with all my crazy, creative energy! I love to paint, craft, bead, garden... I love to create. (I think it's because I like to make a mess!) I'm heavily involved in our local community theater where I've had the opportunity to act, direct, produce, costume and anything else it takes to put on a show. I love being around people and am lucky to have amazing friends! I'm also a big advocate for kids with special needs and kids struggling with a chronic illness. Our life is filled with doctor's appointments, medicines, therapies, needles, and special needs schools. But it's also filled with love, laughter, and fun, lots of fun!
I was raised by two parents who lived their faith by example. They were always serving and loving, quietly and without wanting anything in return. I was proud when someone recognized me as their daughter. I wanted to grow up to be like them. It wasn't until I was older, that I realized my parents were truly living the gospel. That's what made them who they were. Now that I'm a parent I want to be that same type of example for my kids. I want them to learn to love and serve by watching me. Living the gospel has brought me great strength and great peace in my life. I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father who knows me by name, and loves me, no matter what. I know that I am His daughter and that knowledge influences and directs all my decisions. I know that I can turn to Him in prayer and He is always there, always listening, always loving. I find great peace in knowing that I'm not alone. That there is a plan for me, not only on this earth, but a plan to get me back to my Heavenly Father. A plan so that I can bring my family and friends with me. I know that I will see and be with loved ones again. I love people and I love being around them and serving them. Not because it's the right thing to do, but because I believe they are truly my brothers and sisters. I try to love them as the Savior loves them. Sometimes it's not so easy, but it's always worth it. I love the Gospel and could not imagine where my life would be without it.
I have had many opportunities in the church to serve. I've worked with the children, the youth, and with the women in our women's organization - Relief Society. Currently I'm serving in the Stake Relief Society Presidency. I'm also a pianist and organist in our ward. I think some of my favorite things to do in the church is work with the children, teaching them music. I think music goes straight to the soul and helps teach better than any other way. I am so touched when I listen to beautiful music, especially when children are singing. I also love to work with the youth. I have made frienships that have lasted through the years. Even though I have been in a teaching position with them, it is usually the youth that have taught me! I am heavily involved in our local community theater. I love having the opportunity to teach by example. I want each person there to realize who they are, and how talented they are. I want them to realize that (to quote one of our children's songs) "Kindness begins with me". I want to always be inclusive, not exclusive. I love that our community theater strives to be a good, wholesome environment for everyone. Our community knows that when they come to see a show, that they don't have to be worried about content, or seeing something offensive. That we make sure our shows are for the whole family.
